    Ayc light

Getting the red ayc warning light coming on once the engine is up to temperature. Doesn't come on before. Green lights still come on as they should. Any thoughts what could be causing this?

No! The green lights should stop working when the red light comes on. The red light indicates a fault with the system - the system then stops shifting power around so no green lights.

The red light should have no link to the temperature of the engine either, other than the system can sometimes stop working due to the pump being tired and warm oil not pressurising so easily. However the timing of the red light and the engine temp should be nothing more than coincidental.

Have you tried a flashy dash code read?

I've not had the codes read yet. Not sure where would do it round here (Cumbria). It's maybe just coincidence that it's always after the car gets up to temperature it comes on then?

Very few code readers work properly on the VR4. Almost none. The only thing I trust for diagnostic codes is the flashy dash technique.

Finally got round to doing the flashy dash read. This is what I got:

61 - Stop lamp switch system (broken wire) 27− 22
    And
    82 - Electromotive pump breakdown 27− 28

Does that mean the pump is totalled?

It likely means the pump is not making enough pressure. The first thing to try is an adjustable switch from Malc, @MPBVr4
