    Fuel

Hope this fits in this section - moderators, if you disagree then by all means move it somewhere more appropriate that I've overlooked, thanks.

Since having my Legnum, I've been using Tesco 99

Some of you may gasp in horror as the whole nation seems to be split on wether its decent or not, but I went with it assuming it was 99octane/RON vs all the other forecourts (even branded ones) only topping out at 97. Coupled with the fact that these cars in Japan run on 100, so just on the octane rating figures alone tesco99 seems to be the logical choice

In my immediate vicinity I have
    Gulf (97ron)
Texaco - not sure if they have 97
I think there's an esso garage nearby too but nothing higher than 95 there

Places like Shell or BP are *miles* away and impractical

In the last few years a lot of my local forecourts have been changing brands and therefore stock too.

    I'm asking 2 things here -

*Out of my readily available options, if you were in my shoes would you continue with Tesco99 or switch to Gulf's 97?

*Secondly, and this is more for those who have had VR4's long term, what's the best fuel you've ever had in the UK?

Edit - added a third question and adjusted formatting accordingly

Edit 2 - realised I'd asked the 3rd question on another thread some time back.

I can answer your second question, best fuel for vr4 is LPG, half or even less than half of the petrol price and more octans.

I'd love an LPG conversion, I'm just sceptical over who does it.
I want to know that its right first time and not cause any issues.

What I mean is I've heard some horror stories from people converting conventional cars, so it makes me cautious over these cars

I've always used Tesco Momentum 99 and have never had any trouble because of it.

Adam ( @adaxo ) has converted lots of VR-4s to LPG, mine included, and the hardware he specs is brilliant for the VR-4, and you lose absolutely no power or driveability, but gain great fuel cost savings!

That's assuming, of course, you have easy access to LPG, and don't need to travel purely to fill up!

Otherwise, I used to run mine on Tesco 99. The ECU will monitor knock and slightly detune when running on lesser fuel, so don't be too concerned if you need to fill up with something else!

I am another for Tesco 99 Momentum. been running on it and nothing else for 7 years!.
I used to use Shell Vpower, but the local Shell garage closed, and although shell say they have more additives in Vpower the other fuel, it is the octane rating I am going for.

I always use shell V power currently £1.50/L when I need petrol.
just because there is a shell station at the end of my road.
But LPG is the way to go if you have LPG supplier near you.
I pay 57.7p/L and get the same MPG as on petrol.
But that is how I have tuned my car.
I have 2 VR4 both LPG converted. And I would never go back.
I have probably saved more in fuel than the cost of the cars.
It was a no brainet form me. But I have had these cars for about 10 years.

    Bye for Now!

You well off with your figures Dave, I did 60k in one of my vr4 on LPG soo, for a sake of simplicity, in optimistic variant, used about 15000 litres of fuel, lets say petrol @ £1.3 and LPG @ £0.65 (usually its priced half than petrol)
    15000x£1.3=£19500
    15000x£0.65=£9750
    £19500-£9750=£9750 savings
Unless you got fresh import for over 9k I would say you actually can purchase TWO vr4s on fuel savings alone
Not to mention other benefits like huge knock resistance which matter a lot in turbocharged cars.
