    V6 Galant 2003 wheel/tyre size?

    Hi guys,

Might have finally found myself a Galant...

One of the first things I want to do is change the stock wheels out for something aftermarket.

I believe the stud pattern is 5x114.3, what size it comfortable? Could I get away with perhaps 18" inch wheels and 225/40/18 tyres, or would I have fitment issues?

I'll probably look in to lowering it too, as always found the standard ride height far too high.

What combinations of wheels/tyres/lowering springs/spacers are out there?

    Cheers

I really like the idea of these. The website says they won't fit, but I don't see why not? Any issues with going with the 5x114.3 wheels, 18" and either 8.5" or 9.5" wheel width?

Assuming the V6 has same suspension geometry etc as a VR-4 (I have no idea) the maximum size I'd go for is 18x8.5" ET38. I've just got a set for my VR-4, but haven't had a chance to fit them yet as my engine blew.. I did get to test fit the rear without a tyre on, it cleared the suspension but it was quite close. Seems like it'll clear the wheel archers just about (Type-S with the fender flares).

There's a whole thread about this as well with other people's experiences too:

Awesome thankyou. Is the stud pattern above correct? I've found a few conflicting things on Google...

Well the stud pattern is definitely not 5x114.3 as there are only 4 studs haha!

Think I found a winner, shame they don't do them in 18" 4 stud though.

There's a lot less info (here and otherwise) for the N/A models, someone probably knows more than I do. Before buying any wheels though I'd make sure rudimentary measurements to make sure they don't hit your suspension and whatnot, a regular tape measure will give you some idea.

Here's a nifty calculator for comparing the new wheels & tires with the stock ones (though you will need to know the dimensions of the stock ones): https://willtheyfit.com/

Yes, all UKDM/EUDM 8Gs have a PCD of 4x114.3. VR-4s have 5x114.3, along with the odd other JDM model, like the ST-R.

Those 7.5" wheels look nice, but what's the offset on them? I'd want to keep within 5mm of +38.

Also, you've actually found a Galant?!

    Nice!!

    Cheers Nev.

Online I can only find from a few sources that the offset is 40-45. Which I find strange...how can it vary so much, manufacturing processes?

I don't want to speak too soon, but I think I've found a good one

I'd like a VR4 again but it's looking extremely unlikely to find a nice example without importing from Japan.

I spend a lot of time out of the UK at the moment with work, so think I'll settle with a V6 for now and import when I'm more settled.

VR4 wins in every department for me, apart from that V6 noise!

I think UK Sport wheels were 7" wide with an offset of 45.
The mounting surfaces are the same as the VR4 though, so 8" wide and an offset of mid to high 30's should work fine.
