    2. What are the Service intervals.
    3. What are the running costs.
    4. What mods should I do first (list recommended)
    ...a. Brakes

    8. What is MMCS
    9. What is the tapping noise, and how do i fix it (Lasher noise)

Now is the time to get some answers.

Would people mind helping out, so we can get a definitive answer for each question, which we all agree on? I would appreciate people helping me/us answer these. Ii would do it myself, but i have a bunch of other things i would like to sort out before baby arrives.

this way we can start some discussion on the right and wrong answers for each question.

p.s. i left out any questions which is on an individual basis, i.e. insurance. As I feel this differs from person to person, and technically isnt vr-4 related.

    thanks

I think that we should stick to what is recommended as per the manuals for servicing, fluids etc, then perhaps reccomend alternatives, Modding will always be a personal choice so maybe a list of popular alternatives, eg AP brakes upgrade might be a good idea

    9. What is the tapping noise, and how do i fix it (Lasher noise)
Any car with pump up type tappets (followers, lash adjusters whatever) will have some tapping on startup as these things need to pump up with oil to be effective. Its common on Rover V8 engines.

The noise should go off pretty quickly but mine was a bit too rattly and took a long while to go off.

When I had the service done at Xtreme they put in some additive that is suppsoed to ungum the inanrds of the lash adjusters. Since had an oil change and they are much better.

Initial tapping on start up is noisy and goes off within a few seconds.

    10. WHAT IS QUESTION 10 ?

Barry although insurance seems to be on an individual basis i still think it should be included in the list as it is 1 of the first things people look at when thinking of purchasing a VR4. And maybe insurance has ended up on a individual basis because there hasn't been a chart to point buyers in the right direction from the start ..

What is the difference specifically between the V, S & super VR-4?

I've searched the forum and there seems to be no end real concensus on this.

    Previously posted this elsewhere, but...

Looking at the information on AUTO.VL.RU:
    Type-V ~ Either 5-speed manual or INVECS-II 5-speed semi auto, no AYC
    Type-S ~ Only INVECS-II 5-speed semi auto, AYC (optional?)
Super S ~ Only different interior (red carpeting, Recaro seats) and a more bespoilered bodykit? No mechanical difference to a regular Type-S?

    Any consensus on this?

This is my take on it anyway.

And for facelift Type S's, you have the better looking mags with wider tyres and the wheel arches.

Time for an update don't you think?

    1. What is the difference between a Type V and a Type S, and Super VR-4
Type-S ~ With AYC, high contrast meters, wheel arch extensions (if facelift), chromed surround on the gear lever? (if auto), TCL, 225/50r16 on all facelift cars with the better looking new mags.
Type-V ~ standard LSD diff (insted of AYC), standard meters, black surround on the gear lever (if auto), 205/55r16 tires with old mags on facelift cars.
Super S ~ Different interior (red carpeting, Recaro seats, MOMO steering wheel, red inserts on the gear lever gaitor and handbrake lever, chrome surround on the gear cover thingy, no sunroof option or roof rails option(?) AUTO only (?)) and a more bespoilered bodykit? No mechanical difference to a regular Type-S

    2. What are the Service intervals.

    4. What mods should I do first (list recommended)
    ...a. Brakes
If you have a facelift, then definately go for the EVO brakes
If having a prefacelift, then go for better pads and discs
    Discs:
    Camskill Drilled - £225 - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...95p5556Rossini
    Rossini Fronts - £165 - http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/cat...rake_discs.cfm
    EBC Turbo Groove - £220 - http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/p...+%2895%2D98%29
    Rotor Discs - £200- http://www.rotordiscs.com/

    Pads:
    DS2500 £95 - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...d=m22b0s1396p0
    Red Stuff Ceramic £65 - http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/p...+%2895%2D98%29
    or perhaps Mintex pads

For all VR-4: better brake fluid and stainless steel brakelines

    ...b. Induction
Move the airfilter to the place where the battery usually is and lead up cold air, prefarably also build a protection against hot air from the engine bay.

    ...c. Exhaust
Custom made usually cheapest alternative, go for 3" all the way from where the turbo pipes join together, decat or racecat it's your choice. Decat if you really don't have any money, otherwise racecat.

    ...d. Boost
Boost can be set to 0,9 bars without supporting mods.

    5. What tyres should I get
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's is the tyre that most people here would recommend
    http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8416

    6. What Oils should I use
    ...a. ATF
    Amsoil ATF

    ...b. AYC
    Amsoil ATF

    ...c. Engine
    PAO/Ester Based oil, 5w or 10w40,eg. Motul 300V Silkolene Pro-S

    ...d. Brake
ATE super blue racing or Motul Racing Brake Fluid 600

    7. What bulbs are needed for each light?

Are you guys SURE about the Type V specs..?
Both me and my colleague have pre-facelift manual Legnums with 205/55r16 tyres, hi-contrast displays and AYC.
This wouldn't be possible according to the specs in this thread... (hope I haven't read it wrong!!)

I thought the only differences with the Type S were 225/50r16 tyres, Recaro interior (option) and they were all tiptronic. So, if you have a manual VR-4, it MUST be a Type V.
