    2002 Galant VR4. Type V

New VR4 for me! Bit of a barn find, sat in a garage for 17years. Uk supplied Galant Manual Type V VR4 sitting on 16970miles at time of purchase. Took a while for the pics, fair bit of recomissioning courtesy of a forum member who has helped me enormously. Including new transfer box. Imagine I havent set eyes on it at all. Just pictures!

What a way to shakedown a car eh!

    Still here somewhere........

I am, cant wait to waft around for a while. Im also in a quandry now! One car must go, either the Evo or 6G Galant or 8G Galant. Ill cling onto them until the noise from SWMBO gets too loud. Until then.....

Some pics of its Patina from its resting place.

Me, Wouter, Nick and Simon all farted in it after our Keevil track day
It will certainly make for one tidy VR4 - have fun with it

Nice find mike, I am sure it will prove to be a good bye.
Does the type v have the steel subframe or the a aluminium subframe?
It might just be the none turbo 4wd versions that got the ally subframe.

One of the first tasks I completed was a tidy up of the engine bay, replace and/or clean bolts that had tarnished. Clean and paint intake pipe in OEM matching colours. Not utterley perfect but close enough to display what this would have presented unmodified back in 2002.

Onto the paintwork next. This part I quite enjoy and really take my time at it. Out in the mancave, some tunes on amd its a happy place!

A usual snowfoam clean, detar de iron decontamination. Dry off and into a session of clay barring. Then its two passes with the machine polisher, using a Menzerna 3-1 fine cut, medium pad followed b ya light Hex pad cut. I then protect it with a wax in two stages. A failsafe system I use all the time and one I cannot recommend enough. Soft99 Wax on as first stage followed by the Soft99 King of Gloss as stage 2. A car being left outside and used regularly would get 8-12months out of this combo. A car babied in garage, well its measured in years.
I use BraytR1 on all the plastics and seals to brighten it back to OEM standard.

The medium clay pulling the contaminants out.

Video is a front wing in half v half contrast to demonstrate the results and confirm pad usage etc. Very satisfying to watch the light swirls dissapear.

End results. The Trigger Mauve really pops with this combo! A beauty of a colour. I never expected it to pop as much as it does.

It's a lovely car. Personally at that money I'd import myself a fresh one from Japan, and have change to take the family on holiday. Good luck to the seller though.

Good luck getting such a low mileage, manual Galant VR4 from Japan with anything spare to pay a parking ticket at the airport.

Pricing has been based on a valuation by a JDM importer.
