Why does the 2.5ltr V6 Galant (6A13) kick out less bhp, 170bhp ish compared to the 2.0ltr V6 FTO (6A12) which is 180bhp.... very very strange!

2.5ltr V6 Turbo FTO
May be worth looking at putting the cams and air intakes onto the Galant from and FTO almost everything else looks the same.
The cylinders are different bores - would the cams line up?
FTO`s torque is 19.5 (kgf*m) at 4000rpm
Galants is 22 at 5100
So the torque is slightly better.

The easiest way to go from 2 to 2.5 ltr would be to make the cylinders larger and bore them out evenly in which case they should.Originally Posted by Nick Mann
have you got a picture of the fto's inlet manifold
ooppss that site appears to be down at the moment... try this one

the inlet look very similar to the v6 one . ooh hang on i found a piccy of mine
if you've got an inlet manifold kicking about i'll pop over and try it
I will see if I can get my hands on one as yours seems to bunch up at the top where as the FTO one spreads out into a nice large chamber.
thats what i thought , the plenum does seem a lot longer which may explain a bit of the difference , nice if that was the main difference , 15hp just from an inlet manifold
Ah that other pic is back now
just had a thought, the cams off a fto will not fit because unless i'm much mistaken the galant only runs twin cam with V finger rockers opperating 2 valves , whereas the fto runs a quad cam setup i:e one lobe one valve , still the inlet is worth a try
ah right, didnt realise the Galant wasn`t quad cam as there is a 6A13 Quad Cam NA engine available in NZ, but we think it was only a limited production run for crash tests etc...
yeh it seems a bit daft fitting different heads just for one model , i mean all the other mitsus that use that bottom end either in 2.0 2.5 or 3.0 are all quad cam apart from the galant , oh well just proves they are special don't it
hmmm so what about fitting quad cam heads and new timing belts, shouldn`t be a large job
have you had any luck with the inlet manifold yet?
