    nice lot of welding there.
this is what most people strut tops will be looking like, just a thin skin of paint holding things together.

where did you get you donor strut tops from?

You have to be really careful removing that much metal ian one small misalignment and the suspension mounting point can through off your top arm geometry.
the alignment of the suspension top mount does not really matter as we have double wishbone suspension the suspension strut only does the spring and shock travel and rebound it does not control wheel alignment unlike the McPherson strut arrangement.
it is just the top arm mount point you have to be really careful of.
as that could knock your cast and camber out.
but you will find out if it has all gone well when you a full wheel alignment done.
i wish i had done my two cars with full strut top replacements.
it would have been much easier than cutting out , forming and welding plates on there.

    Bye for Now!

well that is a very good sign that the strut brace went back on and lined up.
i think if i replace the entire strut tops at any point i would follow you lead and fit the strut brace before welding started along with spot welds lining up.
i might see if there is option to have a reinforcement set of parts that can be welded on the outside of the strut top like they have for rally cars requirements.

mind you the inside of the front of the rear wheel arch is another prime location for rust. which extends forward to destroy the the back end of the bottom of the sill area.
mine look fine before the last MOT and i made the mistake of giving it a poke with a screw driver and it turned into a nightmare of rust repair on both sides.

Oh that strut brace idea to exact mount back the replacements is a great idea! I have a set of cut off pieces in good condition aquired last week for my VR2, this is an excellent guide and great tips!

I have already done the rear sills ,i learnt from my red legnum not to let it get to bad . I ended up selling that for the gear box . (Manual) .
It went for MOT this week and after last years he said you have been busy with the welder

Hereis a toptip for welding on a car.
make sure the glass is covered so you dont shower it with sparks from welding or grinding.
if you don't cover the glass then the molton metal will melt in it and burn into the glass, and be a permanent addition to the glass.
i used cheap fire blankets i picked up in the range.

i know this because the side window of my house now has little beads of molton metal in the surface of the window for ever more. LOL
