or can i put this oil temp sender on the gearbox? cos gearbox oil temp would be pretty knarly.
i think it goes somewhere near the oil filter, but thats just me quesing
Yuppers oil temp sender usually in two forms,
either the sump plug type sensor where the sensor sits inside a replacemnt oil sump plug. I installed one of these but had problems with the thread size and type which caused a bit of a leak even though I used appropriate sealants/tape around some of the thread etc...
A more reliable solution (I have found - although mine is starting to play up ) is the sensor which sits in a sandwich plate. This sits in between the sump and the oil filter. They usually have two (or more) tapped threads to screw an oil temperature sensor and/or oil pressure sensor....
Blitz do a shiny nice looking device but you will find similar devices on ebay which do the job just as well... The bltiz one is usually between 50 -80 UK Sterling... and I believe you need type B (
For oil temperature for the gearbox.. There is a sensor I believe already (on the tipbox cars)? I think I read somewhere there a warning will be displayed (green LED gear indicator flash?) when the ATF temperature reaches dangerous temps (induced by track racing ) - I am sure someone will correct me if wrong...
Not sure where you could install your own sensor? (and not sure I like sound of tapping into gearbox housing .. )
Anyways I have attached some pics of the blitz unit with a pic of it installed with pressure sender (temp sensor attached in same way)
Oh any pics supplied courtesy of DanG (I hope you don't mind guv )
Hope this helps

for info.. the big plugy thingy is oil pressure sendor and small plugy thingy is oil temperature sendor...
Sandwich plate is probably the best bet as Pezza says. Do be careful though if its an electrical sender as if you use sealant tape etc it will give little or no reading as it also insulates the electrical circuit.
Does anyone know the thread type for where the oil filter attaches? I'm getting a sandwich plate for oil temp/pressure readings but dont know which one to get! Is it 3/4 unf-16?

Another example of such a sandwich plate (from my Legnum).
I do have to add that on (much) lowered cars (such as our VR2) the oilfilter gets quite dangerously close to being hit should you would hit a significant (unexpected) speed bump too hard.
As a matter of fact, I'll replace the (otherwise perfectly operating SDF-20 Amsoil oilfilter) for a Mitsu EVO original one (MD356000) which is very flat so the added 'length' with the sandwich plate is compensated. When I was under the car a few days back I could see the Amsoil oilfilter had been hit. Not hard, but a good 'soft' dent was there, so... not taking any chances, and at the next oilchange the Mitsi filter goes on.
you might want to consider the Amsoil EAO12 then. Its a smaller filter but has the same thead, sealing 'o' ring diameter but is just 2.5" in height. The 'flattest' filter Amsoil make. The real answer perhaps is a remote filter kit!
If you have a problem with getting Amsoil just contact me on 07949 944523 email don@performanceoilsltd.co.uk or web at http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/
AMSOIL 'The First in Synthetics'
the spin on bit for the remote filter kit is still quite deep though and aims the hoses downwards which is a bit annoying
Darned... should've know that before I placed that order a few days back. No chance the order hasn't been shipped yet?Originally Posted by amsoil

Is this the correct unit? it states M20 im just unsure of the M20 x 1.5 bit?
Anyone else reported any problems in how low the filter becomes? ie has anyone hit one yet?
Cheers
Mike
Still here somewhere........
M20 x 1.5 is correct - 1.5 is just the thread pitch and they (Most Jap makers) have standardised on 1.5 pitch.
To my knowledge no-ones hit a filter yet - Which is good, considering what would happen!
I've got one of these to fit shortly. Do I need to use any PTFE tape or anything like that, or can I just screw it in, tighten it up, then do the same with the oil filter? And does this apply to the main oil filter fitting and/or the gauge sender fittings? Or neither?!

Anybody have any advice? TIAOriginally Posted by elnevio
If its the same unit as i bought of tinternet it NEEDS sealing, the blanking screws do NOT seal well at all, which i found to my detriment and woe over loss of a 3.5 litres of AmsoilOriginally Posted by elnevio

sorry to bump an old thread. but i have a question regarding the sandwich plate
basically, i have an oil sender which was supplied with the oil pressure gauge. and on the sender it states that it has a thread size of 1/8" -27NPT. will this sender fit into the sandwich plate?
a link to the sandwich plate that im thinking on getting - http://www.rspec.co.uk/index.php?mai...roducts_id=382
and here is a link to the sender that i found on the same site. it looks identical to the one that i have - http://www.rspec.co.uk/index.php?mai...roducts_id=486

I have a sandwich plate supplied by RSpec and it works well - also if you mention the club you should get a discount.
