    Zedy - HELP!

    Hi pal,

Do you have the following part? It's the rigid pipe (and connecting nuts) that runs from the power steering pump all the way nearly to the back of the engine bay.

My garage says that the pipe/nut has seized at the point where it connects to the pump (see pic 3) and as they try to undo the nut it starts undoing at the pump casting itself ..... they can't get any heating equipment in the confined space to free it and if they put any more pressure they say the pipe may snap leaving me without p/s.

Two more pics showing the route of pipe (all needed).

    Thanks,

    Rich

so if its undoing at the pump, let it... then take the whole pipe out and remove it on the bench, and put the bit that screws back in in!..... or am I missing something?

You know ......... after my garage brought my car back and explained the problem I started thinking EXACTLY the same (after he left). It could be for a couple of reasons:

1] Not enough space to manoever the piece when undoing at the casing - although doubtful.

2] Probably that I told him that I wanted the old pump as it's in good working order and if you start undoing at that point then you get into issues of new seals etc. The engineers who made the new pulley told me that stripping any part from the pump itself could lead to nightmares for anyone not specialising in these parts. BUT ........ when I talk to him next monday (he's gone off to a funeral today) I'll ask and let you know (as I'm also interested!)

Heh! Someone else noticed that once before.

Basically, that is the car's lounge. If I'd taken the photo an hour later it would have been in the car's bedroom which has a green carpet!

Hehe, nothing but the best for our cars, eh Rich ! Mind you, I'd hate to be the one cleaning up the stains from the car's bathroom !
