    Gauges, how, which and where?

I'm looking to install some smoked face gauges in my VR4, it's something I've never done before, I deffinatly want a boost gauge, not sure about what else. What I wanted to ask was where is the easier place for putting gauges (e.g. for threading the probe through to the engine bay) under the stereo, or on the A-pillar? Does the standard din plate with the space for three angled gauges in it fit under the stereo? And lastly which is better for the boost gauge? Bar or psi?

    Many thanks.

I hahve got 4 smoke faced 52mm gauges to install. I am putting 3 in a din holder under the stereo, not sure about the 4th just yet.

I don't think you have to thread a probe through the firewall, just attach the senders then thread the wire through the firewall and attach it to the sender.

There are a few threads on how to install a boost gauge btw, mine is in Psi, but, then again, I have it reading bar on my boost controller.

yes I believe they are mate.

Basically, the sender is the sensor . for oil temp, you screw it into a sandwich place that the oil filter screws into, then, run the cable to the gauge.

I'm not sure what the standard pressure is in the VR4, quite low though. So try and get a gauge with a range to reflect this, unless you're planning an increase?

ie. No point in having a +-30psi gauge when your max is 10.

Also 1 bar = 14.5 psi so unless the incriments on a bar gauge are say, in 20ths of one bar, the psi is more accurate to read at a glance once calibrated. Get my drift?

Can't you get an electric gizmo that will do it all?

Probably, but I like the needle gauges, personal opinion.

Jakester, what are the four gauges you're installing?

I have got AFR, boost, oil temp and voltage.....I was going to have oil pressure too, but, that gauge was out of stock, might get it later.

Nah, not really, I think the tricky bit will be threading the wires through the firewall. The AFR gauge might pose a problem when trying to figure out which wire to splice/scotchblock into on the lambda sensor .

I think I'll get the the oil temp, boost and volt. I was thinking about the firewall, I remember when I had to put a power cable through for my sub, it was a pain in the arse. I think I'll start looking at gauges then. Was your boost gauge particulary difficult?

Well, thanks to a lot of help from a fellow CVR4 member it wasn't too bad, other than that it was a right pain in the arse . There is very little room to work with, and, the pipes that you need to swap over are, thanks to the genius design team at mitsubishi, stuffed away in the most unaccessible place you can find. Well worth the hassle though

btw, this is a preview of my gauge panel, hopefully it will be full by the end of the week

Ah, they really look good in there, can't wait to do mine, still waiting for my VR4 to be ready yet! :-( I wanna do the boost controller, sounds very daunting though.

It is daunting if you try to tackle it on your own with little knowledge, best bet is to try talk to someone near you that has done it, or, get it done by a tuner. When you become a full member, you will find many a thread on how to install it, and, when you get to that point I will take some pics of how mine is connected up.

Cheers for that, I'm gonna have to find a tuner near me. I will give you a pm when I'm at that point, cheers again.
