    Oil advice and recommendations here

I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

    Make
    Model
    Year
    Engine size/type

    Any mods

    Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

    Regards
    Simon

This would be a great thread IMHO if people use the "SEARCH" button instead of keep on asking the same questions on forum (as I did when I was newbie )

5w-40 synthetic for the engine, plenty here

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

For the ATF a synthetic one is best, plenty here

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-442-atfs.aspx

We do not have a match for the AYC but I believe that a synthetic ATF is ok

For bothe these engines either 10w-40 semi or 5w-40 fully synthetic

For the manual gearbox, a 75w-90 gear oil that is suitable for LSD like this one

Further to this, ONLY use a fluid that meets the Mitsubishi Diamond SP-II or SP-III standard. Looking at the link, that limits you to the Amsoil ATF, which is well proven in many member's cars or Motul Multi ATF.

Don't be tempted to use a Dexron fluid - They'll make the shifts rough and also they can cause (or exacerbate if it's already there) torque converter/clutch pack shudder.

Regarding the AYC, ATF is used. Again, the handbook recomendation (ATF did supercede AYC fluid in one part of the diff) is for Diamond SP-III.

Any mods Not yet - possibly a manual boost controller in the future

Type of use (road/track) Road, short commuting, school run, long trips

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used) Dunno!

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc? Engine really, gearbox probably can guess (at previous answers above!) but can you confirm?

I have one of these You will need an oil that meets the VW505.01 spec for the pd engine and they are 5w-40.

I use this one from Fuchs http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-987-fuch...motor-oil.aspx

For the gearbox you will need this one http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-976-fuch...ssion-oil.aspx

    Cheers

Engine oil for winter time/summer time
Diff oil for AYC (other two oils, not the SPIII)
Winter conditions - sea level, min of 0-5c and max of 25c average 15c
Summer conditions - sea level, min of 15-20c max of 35-40c average 25c

only really guesses on temps, but what recommendation do you have?

    cheers

For the diff a GL5 90 or GL5 75w-90 is fine, what oil are you currently using in the engine?

    Cheers

15w40 is too thick... 0w30 up to 10w30 would be better (depending on k's on the engine)
