I've got that you need 2.2L for a full change.

2.8L is the gearbox oil capacity for a manual VR-4.

As for the GL-4 vs GL4/5 debate, well, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence on here that suggests whatever variety of GL4/5 used has caused adverse effects to the manual gearbox in the VR-4. Mitsi do specifically spec GL-4, and to be fair, even without the anecdotal evidence, there is zero point in going for a GL-4/5 over a GL-4 in this application.

Any good synthetic GL-4 will fit the bill. Many owners recommend the use of Amsoil's MTG.

Due to the gearbox specs I would go for either the Amsoil ATF, Motul Multi ATF, Fuchs ATF4400 or Millers Millermatic ATF SPIII.

Technically you should be able to use a GL4 or GL4/5 oil, although a lot of people are adamant that the Galant can only use a GL4 oil. If you want a GL4, go for the Redline MT90, Amsoil Transaxle and Transmission Gear Oil or Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle. If you want a GL4/5, Motul 300V, Millers CRX, Gulf Competition, Castrol Universal or Motul Motylgear.
