    A great cause ...

    Hi guys,

My son Graym, who's 19 years old, is running the Edinburgh Marathon in June this year to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief. I expect, like me, that you're bombarded with requests for donations to charity but we would be extremely grateful if you would consider supporting this great cause by sponsoring Graym.

Please click here for more information and to make a donation if you wish.

Donating online is one of the most efficient ways of giving money to charity as they can reclaim 28% tax from the UK Government in Gift Aid so, after taking into account transaction costs, the charity would benefit by around £11.90 for each £10.00 donated by an individual.

If you go onto this site, you'll find out a little about why he's doing it, there's a link to the Macmillan Cancer Relief website which lets you know what is done with the money they receive and, all importantly, it lets you donate money. He has never run a marathon before so this is a brave challenge for him. I'm extremely proud that he chooses to do something like this off his own bat - really gives me hope for society that there are young guys like him coming through to be the adults of tomorrow

We would really appreciate your help. If you have any questions, you can drop Graym an email directly at blue_wolf75@hotmail.com

    Many thanks,
    Brian

    Hello guys,

As you may have gathered from the User name I'm Graym.

I just wanted to leave a quick note to say thank you all for your support, notably James, Malc and Spirit who have sponsored me on my website.

What about the rest of you ?

BTW - if it helps, you just register your donation now, but can defer making the payment until after the event.....!

    Thumbs up Thanks!

Well, Graym (H.7 Jnr above ) completed the Edinburgh Marathon last Sunday in a time of 4hr 40min 21sec - see the results on the official website here. Thanks to all who contributed to his sponsorship. He was running in support of Macmillan Cancer Relief and reckons to have brought in around £1,000 in total.

This was Graym's first attempt at a marathon and so was really in unknown territory. The weather didn't help, with temperature peaking at 25C on the day making the achievement so much harder. It was reported that 70+ people were treated for heat exhaustion with a few needing hospital treatment, but that may be par for the course with such events.

He was a bit disappointed in his time but suffered a foot injury at around the 20 mile mark so had to walk much of the last six miles. At the 20 mile mark, he reckoned he was around 18 minutes under his target time (of 4hr 30min) so was hopeful he could have done a 4:10 or thereabouts. Undeterred, and still driven, he's now aiming to do another marathon to prove to himself he can get under 4 hours ...

Thanks again for the donations and pledges, guys! Most appreciated!

    Jnr sends his thanks too!

Congrats Graym, well done, puts most of us to shame - I'd stuggle to do your time if I drove half the distance.
