    Unhappy Kieran's 90,00 mile service...

Erk! I'm feeling considerably poorer this evening!!!

And I can't say that it's been hassle free, either...

I've had the 90,000 mile service done, plus the following extra work:

    Automatic gearbox filter+fluid change
    Replace all four tyres
    Suspension alignment, front & rear
    Replace rear brake pads
    Strip/Cleanup front brake pads

Anybody wish to guess how much this little lot has cost me?............

Could you have bought a VR-4 if you had a fiver extra?

    £250 for tyres
    Filter £15 fluid £10
    Suspension alignment.. something stoopid £80
    Rear pads £60
    Strip/cleanup £20
    =£435
    Labour £100

    Total = £535.

Probably way out but it's worth a shot.

Yep, it was £926... Though I knocked them down to £825, because they buggered up the tyre fitting, IE: they forgot to fit the two rears and track them WTF?!?!

Mark, you only totted up the "extra" work and forgot to add the 90,000 mile service to the price ! I don't think £926 was too bad imho

I missed that. But still, dealers have a stupid monopoly on those who need to use them for servicing when the same work can be carried out by others for almost half that cost.

I heard recently, main dealers were going to have to charge less for servicing as they are simply charging way too much and there was something about, if the work carried out by competent third party companies, buyers will still be able to keep their main dealer warranties.
The reason main dealers charge so much for servicing is also because they have lowered the costs of cars in the first place.

I think new regulations just came to de-regulate dealership or something. Which means that dealers no longer have the rights to the region's business.

As long as anyone who can match the standards set out by the manufactureres (which a lot of the dealers don't. surprisingly) then he has the right to purchase the parts from the manufacturers just like any other dealers and promote competition. Hopefully this can minimize the 100% profit margin that dealer/manufacturers make

Also, if they know the source of the part then they do not have to buy it from the manufactueres with their own labels on. Instead they can go straight to the manufacturers' suppliers who offer exactly the same stuff without the middle man.
