Questions about wheels and tyres!

Hi there!

I´ve just read the sticky: "FAQ: What Tyres?" and i still have som unanswered questions.

I´m going for 18". The wheels are 8" wide and the tyredimensions is 225/40x18.

The questions:

I´ve read somewhere on the forum that 235/40x18 with 8" wide wheels will cause problems, in which way i wonder??

I´m going to lower the car about 30mm, will it be ok with any of the combinations above??

Do someone got any pictures of vr4´s with any of the combinations above??


I really need your help here guys, so just write all you know about tyres and wheels for the vr4 and i will owe you bigtime.

I don´t want to buy tyres and wheels for a hole lot of money and discover that it won´t fit on my baby...

You See has that exact setup and he gets quite bad rubbing of the rear wheels on the inside of the rear arches. He is going to get his guards rolled at the end of this week which should fix the problem.

ok. you are talking about the 235/40 setup i suppose??

I'm currently running 225/40/18 and lowered on Kings (32mm drop i think) ..there's quite abit of rubbing with an additional person in the car, no matter where they sit! ...yeah, finally getting my guards rolled on Friday which should sort out the rubbing.
You'll definitely have issues with 235 tyres on there Fritzz, unless you're considering adjustable suspension rather than lowered springs.

come on guys it depends on the offset of the wheel aswell, I have 8inch 17's that now sit under the guard thanks to being rolled, I suspect if the offset was better then it wouldn't rub at all

I´m gonna go for 225/40/18 with 8inch wide wheels then.
And check if i need to roll my guards after the lowering.

I am running 235/45/17 on 8" rims and have only had rubbing once.

I think WODJ has just put 235/40/18's on his, but I don't know how wide his rims are? He had to space the wheel to stop it rubbing somewhere though.

What kind of wheels do you have on your vr4? Brand and size?

I've got Enkei RP05's 18x8" offset 35 with Goodyear GSD-3 225/40/18

Evo 7 wheels. 17 x 8". Not sure on the offset.

Same as above, with GDS-3's

Try paying the bit extra and get the 35's.
40s are probably just a bit too big if you're getting the occaisional guard rub

Older post this, but just wanted to say I've been running 235/40/18s on 18x8 rims (38 offset, no spacers) for two years and never once experienced any rubbing, even on track days. I've got standard suspension though.
