Do you recognise this name?

"You have obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a s**t!"
Yep, the original STIG I believe ?
fan as far as I like to watch it when I can, but don't follow it as I used to. That name rings bells, but that's as far as it goes.
The best things in life have to be lubricated
Yes,

That's impressive Marcus, what comps is he driving at the moment?
My memory may be failing, but didn't he win the RAC in the late 80's in a VR4?
/Edit - that got me thinking....and no, I'm wrong, it was Arikkala. Damn....that would have been a good conversation to have with the guy!
Stig B - Brought Audi all their success in the revolutionary Quattro in the early 80s - I know he's been competing of late (2-3 years ago) in some unrestricted division in an RS200 (0-60 in 2.1 seconds from a 2100cc 650bhp engine!!!!!!!!)
WRC Champion on many occasions

One of the big problems in society is stupidity.
Some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them
WRC Champ in 1984 in an Audi quattro. One of the maniacs who wrestled with Group B cars in their heyday, and so good that, as MPBVr4 mentioned, Top Gear named their generic race driver after him. A full (and very, very long) list of his results is available on the Rallybase website and in his Wikipedia entry. He's still very active ~ and very successful, by the looks of it. Won the Acropolis in 2004 in an Impreza STi, and then won the inaugural Roger Clark Rally in a Mk2 Escort the same year. That's not bad going for an old geezer.
The last RAC Rally I spectated at was the 1996 event where he finished 3rd overall in a wee Skoda Felicia 1.6. It was really wild and snowy that year so having a small, low HP car wasn't a handicap, and it wasn't a points-scoring round of the WRC that year, so nearly all the works Group A 4WDs stayed away. Still, looking through the results for that race, this 50-year old, in what was basically a WRC kit-car development mule, beat guys like Mark Higgins (Nissan Sunny GTi), Grégoire De Mévius (Renault Megane Maxi) and Harri Rovanperä (Seat Ibiza GTi) ~ all international drivers in their prime, all driving full-spec two litre machines. The only cars that beat him were Armin Schwartz in a Celica GT-Four and a Japanese driver in a Subaru Impreza Turbo.
And Stig was getting the biggest cheers through the stages than anyone else as well.
If you're still in contact with him at the end of July, wish him a happy 60th birthday. Top, top bloke ~ no wonder you're chuffed.

G

I have a crumpled offside front wing to treasure. I'm going to get it signed by the man and frame it and put it on my lounge wall
(I've pawed over his steering wheel but the real bummer is being pregnant I can't get me and the bump over the roll cage and even if I did I'd never get out of his bucket seat again without an engine hoist bummer!)
Oh Jane, thats a shame - just think of the story you could tell the lad/lass when he/she grows up....."when I was pregent with you, I was four wheel sliding Stig Blomquists rally car up and down the A5!"Originally Posted by RED
Congratulations by the way
I know I know Still Em had a go in it last night and it was a good job she was wearing a nappy - she was a little excited I'm not sure that Stig will appreciate her adjusting his trip meter though Lots of knobs, switches and lights and a pair of tiny hands and mind. She's on the first rung of "Daddy's little girl being the first lady WRC champ" planOriginally Posted by Jimbo
