    Air Induction

I have just purchased a 2000 INSERT INTO post VALUES (W) GALANT 2.5 V6 SPORT and have been looking for some basic mods, one of which is an air induction kit.

Having trawled the internet the only thing that I can find is a replacement air filter, however with a little help from a friend I came across 'Power and Performance' at Honingham, nr Norwich in Norfolk. This company will manufacture an air induction kit to fit your car if no off-the-shelf parts are available.

Having spoken with Mike at Performance Parts, he suggests that an air induction kit is not necessary. He said that the standard air box for the Galant V6 is a good size with a large surface area for the filter. A replacement panel filter from someone like K&N would suffice, and could be improved by cutting some holes in the bottom of the airbox.

I have a K&N replacement filter on order so I will give you more details when this arrives. Hope this helps.

    K&N Installed

I have installed the K&N panel filter replacement, and in my opinion it has made a slight difference. Although the increase in power is not significant, it does seem to have increased reponse at higher revs and has improved my fuel efficientcy. I seem to be getting on average another 30-50 miles from a tank of petrol.

In addition, through some investigation, it seems that the airbox connection in the V6 Sport is exactly the same as the VR4. This means that the HKS induction kit for the VR4 will fit the V6 sport. It also means that all other kits for the VR4 will fit the V6. :thumb:

Hope this helps someone else out there with a V6.

    Hi ColV6

    Thanks for the input
Does the V6 Sport have the same air filtering system as a normal VR4
ie.the big filter on the front going to a large box where filter goes ??

edited to add pic of my engine

I used to have a V6, and the airbox appears exactly the same - although I never placed the two side by side to compare! The air funnel was the same size and position, and I'm pretty sure the box was as well.

How much does it cost you to fill the car, and how many miles does that get you?

You see, the filter element for K&N fits the GLS INSERT INTO post VALUES (same airbox).... if it's adding an extra 30-50 miles to a V6, then my 2.0 I-4 should benefit too

    Breath easy

Sorry for the delay in replying Kieran. Have an irate fiancee on my back at the moment....it was only an MGTF!!

It usually costs me about £40 to fill the tank with Optimax INSERT INTO post VALUES (79.9p per litre). I had a good run tonight to Luton and back, and have been taking it a little easier lately. I have already managed to get 310 miles from the tank and the needle is showing just under the 1/4 mark.

It may be due to the slight reduction in pressure on the 'go' pedal but I still seem to be getting better figures lately. However, the paper filter that I removed was absolutely minging!!

The airbox looks like it is exactly the same as the VR4. I have a HKS on order so I will let you know when it arrives and I have it fitted.

    Later :cool1:

Are you not supposed to have her on her back??!

I am in the process of having a stainless steel MAF adapter made, should be pretty much a universal fit for Galants. This will allow us to use 3" neck filters and save the expense of shiny HKS jobbies! I'll let you know how I get on, but for now bean power will have to do INSERT INTO post VALUES (you will have to search for bean tin to find my original post!)

I'm not sure whether that's good or bad as I haven't had the car for long enough. I was getting on average about 250-270 from a tank until I put in the new filter and changed to optimax. But then again I was also suffering from 'binary accelerator disorder'.

I just can't seem to stop myself from finding that little button on the floor under the go-pedal when I am sat at the lights with a Citroen Saxo revving at the lights beside me!!
