    Laptop problem: not charging

My wife's been a bit rough with her laptop and the DC connector on the back has been pulled askew one time too many. Now when you plug into the mains its tricky to get it to recognise the power supply.

I took the casing off and i reckon its the springy-contacts inside the DC connector.

(We already tried buying another power supply in case the problem was at that end.)

Does anyone know a place that repairs this sort of thing? Ie most likely need to replace the DC connector on the motherboard.

The laptop is a Compaq presario R3000 quite a high spec (2.1Ghz, half-gig of RAM, 17" widescreen display) so worth spending a couple of hundred to rectify if necessary.

    Cheers.

Should be easy enough to get the parts - all you need is a low power grounded soldering iron and a new connector

Try looking at Maplins as they sell must stuff like that

If you take it to a laptop place they will charge you lots of dosh for 10 mins work

If you are up for replacing the socket yourself (or have a friend that can), then these guys are the only place I have ever been able to find the non standard jack sockets used in some laptops.

I had a similar problem once but on an Apple laptop.

If you are *sometimes* getting a charge connection this info is not of use to you but I did notice on my Apple that there was an inline fuse which had also blown (as well as a bad connector). Just a thought ...........

Funkster wins the prize so far! Top linky dude. I'm giving them a call tomorrow.

I shy away from soldering irons since I killed my HP jornada 720 just to fix the headphone socket.
