Club VR4 membership officially launches this weekend and to date we have the stunning figure of 16 paid up members onder:

I couldn't agree more Pete, though I know that some peeps only log in now and again - they're the ones who are probably willing to pay, but have forgotten about it.

Perhaps a Private Message Mailshot to everyone might wake a few people up? onder:

    Could'nt agree more.

We have over 500 forum members INSERT INTO post VALUES (not sure how many guests) and only 16 paid members. Nearly 200 members have joined the forum since I joined.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

Well I see no reason why I should spend the time doing that - if they can't be bothered then nor can I. People don't seem to understand the work and costs involved - it's been free for 6 months and now there is a small fee everyone has hidden away onder:

If you put it into proportion is approx 4 packs of fags or 6 pints of beer for a years membership - most will save the money reading 10 minutes of tips and hints on the forums, let alone the 15% Adrian Flux insurance discount and the other discounts available.

/gets off soap box and will not mention it again - if Barry feels like me then I would not blame him if he pulled the plug

I have to agree it is slightly disappointing but it hasn't officially started yet so maybe people are holding back until they realise exactly how much of the valuable info and interaction they will lose.
I'm normally the last person to act on something and leave everything to the last minute no matter how much I try and get organised.

A lot of info has already been shared and we all know a hell of a lot more than we did at the start!! maybe that is what some people are banking on, they learnt all they needed to and don't feel the need to join in as much as many of us do.

Still early days, I wouldn't get too despondent just yet.

:madete - Stop it! That's not the attitude I expect from a forum mod!:nono: I know you must be feeling very frustrated but comments like the above are just going to breed apathy and bitterness.

A simple mailshot using the system isn't likely to break the bank in terms of effort and money and it would probably help gee the procrastinators and people who have genuinely forgotten/not kept up into action - they'll feel like they're part of something if you take the time to send a message to them privately.

People WILL pay the cash - just look at Barry's gift fund - about 20 people chipped in, even though there was no reward in it for them.

.....and when you have laid out well over £200 towards this Club like I have already then you may feel the same !

There is no bitterness just disappointment at the current situation. As Mark says it is early days and yes there may be plenty who have got the info they wanted and may never log on again - I agree thats just life.

I don't envy your decision you have to make. It is a fine balancing act, between site popularity and effectiveness, against value for money for paying members.

Your frustration is understandable, Pete, but this is pretty normal for the inception of a new club. You guys have achieved an enormous amount in a short space of time. The club's only been going six months, but you have over 500 registered on the website. We are pretty specialised, concentrating on VR-4s and, if I remember correctly, there are around 60 people here who have Galants of varying specs. So, getting 16 out of 60 is pretty good going! You should be well pleased

I'm pretty sure you didn't think about the personal cost to you when you got involved. I know what I've spent in the various clubs, societies, organisations and charitable stuff that I've got involved in, but I do try not to weigh that up against the success of any of these things because, like you, I could get pretty despondent at times. I try instead to look positively at the achievements of the organisation as a whole and take pleasure in having contributed towards that achievement.

You have a lot to be proud of, try not to feel down about it. I think the PM suggestion is a good one - after that, at least you'll know for sure what the level of interest is

Keep up the good work! There are lots of us who really appreciate what you do for us and what you've achieved to date. Thanks, guys!

P.S. I do like KiwiTT's signature saying he's a CVR4 Member - fully paid-up members could get something like that below their Avatar INSERT INTO post VALUES (as they do on the MLR) which might also help to nudge peeps into joining

C'mon guys, get yourself paid up. £15 is nothing, to put it in better perspective than the beer and fags reference INSERT INTO post VALUES (I dont partake in either); it is enough to buy fuel to get you 100 miles!

The club has provided me with huge amounts of information and help, and I would like to think that I have done my bit to help others. We rely on each other for this help and without this site many of us would resign ourselves to driving standard VR4s or even worse change to a different car simply because we dont understand the one we have.

The guys do a fantastic job keeping the website fresh and up to date, but unfortunately this is not free. Everything costs money, fact. What is not factored in to the membership is the time and effort put in by key memebers so that we all benefit.

I for one would have quite happily paid a lot more for my membership, so do the right thing and put your hand in your pocket.............

I have the forms completed at home and fully intend to pay as soon as I take possession of car. Hopefully next weekend but at latest week after.

No point paying if I don't own one is there

I would recommend everyone to join, I have already been given lots of info already. Having been a member of the Mondeo Enthusiast Group prior to this I know how good/useful these clubs can be.

Come on everybody get your wallets open....INSERT INTO post VALUES (and your purses)

Not as fast as a VR-4, but it'll do for me.

    Don't despair yet!

I am one of the people who wrote the envelope and the cheque last weekend but haven't yet managed to get off my arse and post it. INSERT INTO post VALUES (I am doing it now, I promise!) Don't forget also that there are increasing numbers of postal workers on strike, so there could be many more forms on the way.

Also I agree with the sentiments earlier that 16 is not bad, especially when you look at the how many VR-4's thread. Last I looked that was only in the fifties, so one third of all confessed owners are already members!

I am relatively new here, but I think that the club is, and will continue to be, moving forwards.

    Good job all!
