    UK: Need stock VR-4 shocks?

..But don't want to pay a visit to your local Mitsubishi $tealer and hand over your house, wife, kids, dog and secret stash of Jelly Babies to 'Robin Blind' behind the parts desk?

    Well, rejoyce!

You may already know that Bilstein list a B12 kit for the VR-4... welll, the B6-Spec 'Sport' shocks that fit onto standard VR-4s (and those lowered up to about ~30mm) are now listed in the UK/European catalogues as well as the Japanese ones!!

The Part numbers are BE5-2582 and BE3-2583.

    See here for details:

    http://www.carparts-cat.com/pkw/part...&VID=160003828

And see here, if you want confirmation that they're what Bilstein supply in Japan for the VR-4:

    http://www.bilstein.co.jp/car_index/...hi/legnum.html
    http://www.bilstein.co.jp/catalog/mitsubishi/top.htm

So - where do you get them from in the UK? Your local Bilstein Dealer. Or you can find them on here:

Yeah.... It works out (if you're interested) at £388 from Motorsport world. Looking across t'interweb, this is on a par with everywhere else it seems.

Still, a higher specification shocker than standard, with the ability to tolerate up to -30mm drops. And still (just) undercutting Mitsu OE prices, once you add VAT on the top!

i dont need shocks, but i'm quite sure there must be some vr4s out there with >80Ks / 10years old that must have shocks on the way out....

definately an option compared to dealer prices (£240 a corner rings a bell !!!!)

I bought my Bilstein shocks for the V6 from EuroCar Parts am sure, although MSW did do them at the time, it was Bilstein who directed me to ECP. cost me £42 a corner, n feel fine. Though they were standard replacement gas. Prefer the Koni adjustables myself.

I am guessing that the shocks for the VR4 are not the same as the V6?

Oh!! Breaking KieranCorp News.... Bilstein B8 (Shortened B6) shocks are now also available!!

    Part numbers...

    BE5-6746(front)
    BE3-6747 (rear)

As far as I can tell, B8 shocks are shortened so that you get the full damping stroke when you're using lowering springs - when you use lowering springs on a standard shock, you're effectively pre-loading the shock and removing some of it's movement range - some shocks will tolerate this, others don't like it and might fail prematurely.

More info on B6 vs B8 here:

    http://www2.bilstein.de/en/produkte/tuning.php3

Cataloge here if you want to check it out....

so you're now begging the question of :

1.) should i just replace the shocks?
2.) should I replace the whole setup for lowered springs???

Tein S-Tech, from Camskill - about £160ish. Designed for the extra lard that the VR-4 carries. Don't be tempted to use V6 Springs....

Right.... It does indeed seem that Tein don't do S.Tech springs for the saloon.

Having had good look around Tein's website, here are the options I've found. None of them look cheap, as they're all coil-over kits!

    Tein Type-CS:
    http://www.tein.co.jp/csdamp2e.html

    Tein Type-HA:
    http://www.tein.co.jp/hadamp2re.html

And the wagon damper also (oddly) has the Galant listed as well as the Legnum.

In terms of lowering springs, I think this leaves us with perhaps a set of KYB 'Lowfrer Sports' for the saloons? Not sure.... I'll keep looking.

We had them on our old VR4 - although I'm pretty sure that we didn't pay anywhere near that for them

Our opinion was that they made it a bit soft tbh but then we were used to an ultra stiff set up previously .......
