    VR4 loosing water

My car was loosing water recently, I had a friend in the trade said it was because I was sitting with my aircon on while idling...NOTE to members - put aircon off while sitting in the summer or keep an eye on water levels .....PS it works .

Loosing water from where?? my 2.0 16v drops water all over the shop if the air cons been on for a while and the car is stationary i.e. traffic lights, car parks etc.... but its just condensation, not actually 'leaking' from anywhere

    i agree

you should not loose water from cooling system through the air con being on.(but you will get condensation nothing to worry about)

check your rad for small cracks on the plastic part on the top.

you may have a very small crack in it.

The only thing that could be causing that is if the car was overheating with the aircon on and thats where the water was coming from. Was the water coming out hot or cold, and what side of the engine bay was it coming from?

Also, welcome to the forums, we're a friendly bunch, so I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

    boiling hot water

Well guys -hello and thanks for info ...but my overflow bottle was pushing out steam and bubbling furiously ( like me when I thought it was the beginning of the end for my new car)...when it cooled I put 3.5 ltrs of antifreeze and 2 ltr of water in radiator..it seems to be holding water ok now...fingers crossed ,I had better check in morning again having been out all weekend in it posing.

Sounds like it has been overheating with the aircon on. The car shouldn't do that, it should be able to have the air con on max in any kind of traffic

    water "leaking" as well

hey guys, just brought a 1998 legnum vr4 and think its amazing, but just have a question about some water "leaking"
it probably is the aircon but im pretty clueless and can't tell, ive attached a pic of where it was dripping from.

    stopped after about 2 hrs

its pretty much just behind the LF wheel not sure what it is the drip is coming out of.. any info would be great. attached som photos.

hope your problem isn't to serious wanda

Rosco - yours looks like the air con condensation. Check regularly after using the air con and turning it off. You should then come to the same conclusion.

Wanda - there is something wrong. As said previously, your car should not boil with the air con running. My temperature gauge hardly moves! I suspect that you were very low on water at the time, or one of your fans is not coming on.

You're not burning it are you? Does your exhaust smell sweet? Any contamination in your engine oil?

How can you lose that much water and not see where it is coming from? Is it definitely being lost through boiling?

If the car is boiling, then can you get hot air from the heater controls? And can you see if the radiator is in good condition?

do you bleed the cooling system up each time ? if not then you will drink shed loads of coolant and eventually kill a head gaskit or 2
