    Angry Fuel Economy

One thing I've noticed since I last paid a visit to "Robin Blind" at Variava's in notts is that my fuel economy has nosedived.... before, I was getting about 30-31mpg... I'm now getting 25-26!!!:mad2:

First stop is some redex injector cleaner for the next few thousand miles INSERT INTO post VALUES (seemed to help before)... anybody else got any ideas?

The GLS was originally run with Texaco Unleaded + Redex injector cleaner.... I then transferred to Shell Optimax INSERT INTO post VALUES (+cleaner untill it ran out) with no noticeable MPG loss.

Then It was serviced, I've been using Optimax since and it's slurping the go-go juice!:INSERT INTO post VALUES (

I would look at the tune-up they did at the service, for that level of usage.

Unless of course, you are wanting a VR-4 more and more and are pushing your GLS a little harder.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

The actuall MPG doesn't bother me, i'm just annoyed that it WAS considerably better before... if it had always pulled 25mpg, then I wouldn't be moaning!

That's certainly a possibility. Not noticed anything different in my driving style, but my last service was just before Santa Pod........

I noticed an increase in petrol usage, when I pushed my old car.

Do you have a switch for power and economy mode ?
Have you been accelerating a little harder at the lights ?
Have you altered your driving, using cruise control, when you didn't before, or something like that ?

I heard that driving at 10% more than normal can use 20% more fuel, due to the increase in wind resistance, to move the car forward at higher speeds.

i'm using normal unleaded and optimax, getting an average of 29mpg, thats a mix of town, long commute and back road thrashing, quite reaching speeds of sillyness!

cant complain about that, especially as i'm not paying for the petrol!!!!
