if there the ones in you sig,
going by the lack of strech id say there only 8" wide.

ive got a set of 18 x 8" with 225s (GSD3's) and looks likes there's no strech like in your sig,

also ive got a set of 18 x 8.5"s with 225s (DZ101's) and they look very streched.

Si, I'm fairly sure your wheels would be 7.5 or 8" wide

just as a note for others out there, I got 17"x8" on mine with 38 offset and had 235s. The gap between the tyre and the rear bars is smaller than a bees dick. that if they're not rubbing slightly. I didn't get a chance to see if there was rubbing or not.
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.

Yeah, they are very close with that tyre+wheel setup.

Have a look at my setup with 235/45/17's on 17x9.5" +35mm offset wheels, your setup would have the top of the tyre 3mm closer to the suspension

im still looking for options to replace my wrecked set (stupid drunks) of 18x8" ET35 aztecX.

I currently have 235/40r18 and want to keep them.

I can get a set of JIC mags that are 18x8.5" , but are 30 offset.
They fit fine and i drove down the road ok, but they will probably hit the guards (rear guards already rolled). They had 225/40r18 on them (stretched looking).

Has anyone heard of machining some material off the mounting face?
a few mm is all i need, probably not the whole 5mm.

not sure on that, but I would think that if it was possible then you would hear about it more often.

That extra 5mm of offset will hurt though, you'll have big problems trying to drive with wheels that wide, and at that offset.

    it is possible,
    just usually not done,

depends how much extra meat there is on the wheel hub,

if you take off to much or its not thick enough to be machined in the first place your wheels will end up cracking and possibly falling off the car.

and if its not done perfectly the wheel will become un-centered and vibrate,

    so definately not recommended

Yeah, the amount of material is key. Some manufacturers produce finished wheel blanks with no stud pattern and an extra thick hub, so that you can drill your own PCD, and machine the perfect offset. When it comes to altering a finished item, it could be risky, but im guessing they would like to keep a fairly healthy margin of safety on them though So probably could do it, but it might be an expensive ****up if it fails on a bend..

Hehe I realise that lol. I'm a 3rd yr eng student. I meant more along the lines of do wheel repair/mod shops do it at all? We'll see tomorrow I guess.

Taking 5mm off will actually bring them a bit close to the suspension. It's gonna be very tight.

This sucks - they're a bargain, and in mint condition, and suit the car perfectly. I'm gonna punch the next drink driver i meet. no sh*t.

woohoo found a set of matching mags - off a rwd skyline so two are offset 42 and 9inch wide the others are 8 inch and 35. I'm happy!

You will want to run 225/45 and 255/40 on those, or 235/45 and 265/40 otherwise your transfer case will suffer. You're going to have problems getting tyres that size under the rear arches though.
