Our whanau has 3 animals excluding the kids, 2 dogs and a cat. Will get photos up in the next couple of days.

Dog 1 is Wolfy, he's a pure, blonde, midlength haired pom - he's mine. Fights REALLY wierd coz he's got a blended style of dog instinct and cat ninja style.

Dog 2 is Chewbacca (Chewie), he's a slightly darker blonde pom/chihuahua - he's the mrs'(really womens dog, mkaes me sick.)

Cat is Zed, err.... he black and thats about it, he's the dominant animal give the two dogs are at best 3/4 his size - He my eldest daughters (I suppose that means I'll have to buy another cat for the youngest soon )

I wasn't trying to start cat 'fight club'....

the first rule about cat fight club is don't mention cat fight club

bradc, your cat looks pretty cool - loving the tufty bits on top of the ears - I think I'll make that my next mod

    Maine Coons rock!

Here is ours, also an offspring of Storm (Linked to by Brad) Ours has awesome Lynx tufts on the ears! The tails are pretty amazing too, really bush but also quite hefty... no doubt they need the weight for balancing all that body weight.

Arnie is now ~8 months old, and is the size of a large standard cat. Maine Coons don't reach full size till somewhere between 3 and 4 years old however

3rd pic shows him next to a very fat domestic cat.

yeah their tails are huge, you should try brushing Arnie's when he comes in with mud, twigs, slugs, and biddy bid's all through his coat. you need to wear armour!

What are Maine Coons like with wildlife are they as, er 'playful', as the smaller domestic* cats or are they too big/slow/lazy to catch birds and rodents?

How long before it's unsafe to roam NZ streets/countryside if you're any smaller than an Alsatian?

    *yeah right

well they've had a rabbit, and catch birds, mice and rats regularly, probably 3 or 4 a week. They aren't as good as our Ocicats were though, the Oci's bought in all kinds of wildlife, at least one kill a day, including pigeons, blackbirds, minors, rabbits, etc. They also hunted baby lambs...

Storm is a particularly frentic hunter, he is so much faster than a normal cat

We have a real menagrie here, Dog (Star), Chinchilla (Cracker), Budgie (Bert), Zebra Finch (Zebedee), a koi, Mcoy, 2 x Sturgeon (Tad and Morse) and countless other pond fish. The whole family is animal potty but we admit to avoiding cats as they start our allergies going.

Bailey - Possum assasin... (given half a chance and some dog fitment crampons.)

Had her about 6 weeks now, seems to be settling in well.

Completely fixated with furry things in trees & going through chew toys at an unbelieveable rate.

Staffy's are great and the ones I know tend to go through a chew toy every few days. We used to have a Jack Russell cros Staffordshire who was a handful but just looked like a very tough JR. HE was soft as can be in reality, despite his noise.

An old set of crossplys should slow her down a bit!

Glad to hear it's working out. Do the Aussies (and the Kiwis should they wish to answer) have the same fear (for want of a better word) of these 'Devil Dogs' that our press are keen to force upon the British?

There have been a few PitBull stories in the press of late but people seem to know that Staffys are very different and love them. There were a couple of really high profile attacks in NZ that have been all over the news recently too.

We're very often getting stopped on the way giving her walkies by people wanting to pet her, probably on account of the huge grin she walks around with and the tongue lolling out to one side.

She's Staffy crossed with Mastiff so is a lot bigger than a normal Staffy & chewing is indeed quite her fortë. Thankfully she sticks to her toys though and has not moved on to furniture/shoes etc - touch wood.

heres our family pet, Keira she's about 85% alsation

she eating a lollipop in this pic!

we were on the hunt for a German Shepard, after about 4/5 week's we decided to have a look in our local pet rescue centre, when i saw her at first i thought she was a G/shepard pup. once we got chatting to the staff and then heard about her story of why she was in there we asked to see her out her kennel and see how she reacted to our daughter's, amazing ... she was just brilliant with them so we just had to have her!

she was taken from a drug house who's drug using owner's "spiked her and abused with drug's and needles".
we've had her for about 6 yr's and if you were to meet her you'd never know what type of back ground she had.
absolutely love's people and is probably one of the most freindly dog's you could meet

The latest addition to our maine coon family - Evie She's three months old at the moment... and is polydactly on her front feet - she has thumbs! Going to be trouble me thinks...

She slid off my lap last night and landed on Arnie (the ginger one) - he's our other maine coon - only 18 months old, and weighing in at about 9kg

Well I am sorry to say that Gromit the hamster, which every body loved from post #38 (picture below) has passed away. We found him yesterday morning and I buried him in the garden last night. We actually found him by the door shown in the picture like he popped out to say one last goodbye to the world. Still he didn't do bad at 2 years and 8 months.

    Rest in peace Gromit
