How weird is my car ?

It has a boost leak problem, that much I know. We changed the turbo’s to no avail. When I drive it.. which hasn’t happened for quite some time… It drives like a pig !!
It sounds as rough as Jordans voice & pumps blue smoke from the exhaust every time I back off.

So……………… I decided to destroy it by taking it to Mallory yesterday. I made sure I had breakdown cover, as I was not expecting to complete the 1st lap let alone the whole day !! but………. My car behaved magnificently ?? err…….. why ??

Sure, I was down on power [ I knew I would be ] but the car drove perfect on the track. Never missed a beat, no smoke & as well as it’s driven for yonks ??

Half way through the day, Jimbo & I went to the petrol station some 4 miles away, & back to the same problem. Sounding & feeling like a JCB, & chucking smoke out again. Back on the track in the afternoon……………. Perfect ??

    Someone explain ?

Dunno... could be a sensor fault?... i.e. on the track you could be on WOT alot more ruling out alot of the cars sensors when it uses the pre-determined open loop maps instead of using closed loop control used for part throttle (going to the petrol station)..

dont really know, just a suggestion...

** the flames are cool btw.. (from both exhaust too!) **

    It's simple.......it's cursed !

Cursed by the devil of trackdays......it simply wants to be on track and any other activity it starts to fight back, spit and misbehave.

For a more rational explanation......feck knows ! Have you put a MUTII on it ?

I am thinking along the same lines as DanG. Makes sense ! There was an 02 Sensor floating around at Donny. Not sure who's it was or who's got it ? But if it's available then

Edited ! As i ain't got a clue what went wrong with my previous post

my car did the same thing, when driving normally it would run like ****, but at full throttle it was great. It turned out to be a fauly cam position sensor, at normal throttle levels the car wouldn't know what was happening to it and would pour tons of fuel into the cylinders. When driving normally it would misfire, stall and pop and stuff. Under full throttle it was fine

Hmm ! Was this an intermittent fault or Did it act like this all the time while driving normally.

it would start doing it every week, I would just disconnect the battery and it would work again for another week before it suddenly started doing it again.

So change the 02 sensor and the Cam Position Sensor Well 1 at a time and the cheapest and easiest first

I was thinking about your car on the way home Derek. It must be overfuelling. That would explain the smoke (and flames!) when you back off and the fact that it's down on power. When the mixture is rich you are always going to be down on power. What's causing it to overfuel, I don't know, but as others have said you would have to suspect a sensor fault somewhere.

Also, as a side thought, have you still got the cat fitted? If so, that'll probably be on it's way out due to the overfueling and will be causing a restriction in the exhaust too.

If I know Derek like I think I do, he won't have a cat installed at all

I'm fairly sure the car is running really rich too, it's just a matter of figuring out why

But he has a unichip installed so this should have control over the fueling , unless the maps in that have reverted to a standard level ?

Ahh, didn't know that. Well, in that case, is the Unichip definately set up right at this moment in time? Derek - do you still have problems if the Unichip is removed?

Could be so many things causing it to act pootly at idle or low revs. You need to get a diagnostic tool on it to see if there are any fault codes. Did you alter the fuelling at all when you had the NOS setup that you have forgotten to put back?
