Question Traffic Law - who are the good guys?

    From todays BBC news online:

For those that don't know Mr Loophole is a very expensive (and no doubt rich) lawyer who specialises in challenging speeding and other traffic offences on behalf of his clients (typically wealthy clients). He has had considerable success, apparently by challenging the information held by the prosecution and also the accuracy of reporting by the arresting officers.

The Welsh police (although I didn't particularly think Gwent so much) have really concentrated on speed offences - one Mr Brunstrom is well known for his views and actions on all things vehicular.

Anyone got any more info? Who do you think is the good guy here?

Nick Freeman (now there's an apt name ) is quoted as saying "At this stage I can't go into the details surrounding these allegations other than to say I'm innocent of these claims". I hope he's got a good lawyer Sounds like someone's out to get him ...

Obviously we need more information, but that was my initial thought.

Bearing in mind that various laws and human rights have been brushed aside to ensure the success of speeding convictions by scamera. I think this will be very interesting....

Brunstrom (who is a nut) aside, generally the good guys are actual traffic officers (ie the ones out there on the roads. Not the ones driving desks).

Freeman is a leech, like most lawyers and is an unpleasant indicator that the rich and famous (and wealthy) can get away with things because they can afford a better lawyer, not because they're innocent.

Speed cameras are over-used and revenue collection devices. On the other hand, they are enforcing the law, so anyone caught by one was breaking the law. Now... having a camera enforcing the speedlimit on a motorway where there haven't been any accidents in 10 years is absurd. Not having one outside saddleworth prepatory school where people routinely break the 30 mph (should be 20!) limit and only 100 yds further on 5 people were killed a few months ago (in fact just outside the 30 limit) is also absurd.

The people who speed past that school and overtake me when I refuse to are the bad guys. They may "only" be doing 42 instead of 30, but that doubles their stopping distance. All it takes is one 4 year old to run out from between parked cars to turn that driver who "knows" he's a safe driver into a child killer. And re the thread on sentencing, he won't get more than 18 months.
