    Question So what's the difference?

As some of you may know, I've recently purchased a fantastic VR-4 Legnum off Ritch_w. Being a new owner, I've only just started spotting some subtle differences between what are Ralliart Legnums.

For instance, my VR-4 has a slight recess for the plate in the bumper, roof bars and on the rear it says 'LEGNUM' embedded in like an extension of the light clusters.

    Like so:

CiderisGR8 has got his car up for sale, same Ralliart V 99, but different.
No Legnum, no roofbars, no recess for plate, and the fog light isn't embedded into the bumper?

Anyone any ideas? Not that it bothers me, just would like to understand the subtle differences between what we have. I'm perplexed. I've looked at other examples and there appears to be two types, ones like mine and ones like CiderisGR8's.

Thanks in advance for any light shedage!

    Cheers

Thumbs up Have you still got the receipt?

Ciderisgr8 has debadged his car - it too had Legnum (or Galant) across the rear of his car once.

The position of the foglight depends on who prepared the car for the UK market.

Lots of different variations on the roof, although I've yet to see a facelift car with sunroof and roofbars (it's common enough on pre-facelift models).

Recessed panels - I've no idea?!?!

What you will find though Tim is that there are all sorts of variations out there, you'll see numerous people come on the forum wanting a VR4 and it must be this, it must have that. They either strike very, very lucky or they get bored of waiting. Without having seen it I'd suggest you've got a great car from a proud owner - you'll get used to having a recessed number plate given time

    Some variations

    - estate/saloon
    - sunroof/roofbars/nothing
    - automatic/manual
    - leather/cloth/recaro
    - walnut/carbon fibre/black plastic console
    - type-S/type-V
    - PRICE

Just had a look at the photos again - if Cinder's VR4 is like mine he's got a plastic bracket in his bumper recess so that the car can take a standard UK plate.

Yep - take the number plate brackets off a UK Galant, like a GLS or a V6 and you'll see the same.

    Cheers for the replies guys

That explains a few things. I'm almost glad I didn't spot the variations to be honest with you, but these things are that rare, beggars can't be choosers. I think the only thing cosmetically I'm going to do is debadge the rear and leave the vr4 in the front grill.

Reason I spotted the differences was because I'm still struggling to replace my plate for the private one Ritchy had on his. Halfords are pathetic, the end, and then aplates haven't been great either. So I was looking around for what style plates everyone else had and was trying to decide what looks best. I quite like the full UK style but I'm undecided!?

    Cheers

Just had a quick photoshop, and I think debadge looks prettier. What do you reckon?

All that you've pointed out is fairly minor, it was simply a matter of a combination of things including what mitsi/ralliart felt like, as well as what the owner wanted. There is definately nothing wrong with Ritch's car at all, it is absolutely stunning.

Ohh and I have a sunroof and roof racks....just not on the same car! My facelift VR-4 has a sunroof and my prefacelift has a roof rack

I think people are getting the wrong idea

I love my new car, and I certainly don't think anything is wrong with it. I'm just trying to understand the wee differences. It was confusing because I could see 3-4 cars of around the same age 99-00 imported by Ralliart, but a little bit different.

I'd even keep the superleggera's I got with it if they'd fit over the monster Brembos. Sunroof I can live without, I prefer the roofbars and where the fog light is. Still undecided on the style of licence plate, but I'm deffo going to debadge the rear as I think there's too much going on there.

If I did go for a full size plate, what do I need to get to fill the recess, and more importantly where from?

    Cheers

Keep the VR-4 logo at the back, people need to know what just flashed past them

I personally prefer the superleggera's over the EVO 8 wheels, however the ones you have are only 17x7, the EVO 8 wheels are 17x8. Also the superleggera's would probably fetch more money on the open market than the EVO 8 wheels which are going quite cheaply now.

theres a horrible bracket thingy for the front Mitsi fitted for UK size no plates.
I may still have an old one in the garage - I'll look out for it when I'm clearing it out on sunday.

Personally I prefer the recess, you should be able to get a 11" or 12" x 6" jap import size plate (same as the rear) to fit.
