lmao, if it is i'll be well happy. it looks as if its just a weight, theres no sensor or nout going to it. it looks useless, but i aint no expert!
Looks like its part of the bracket and the wield has gone, allowing it to rotate abou the LHS of the bit.

well its now off, and weighs a friggen ton.
I think it's one of the vibration dampers that was fitted to the 2 litre units. The V6 was deemed not to require it. There's a couple more, the locations are in the workshop manual. All they do is add mass to the thing they're connected to - Mass loading is quite effective at improving NVH.

The design on a PAS system just changeing a hose could make the system noisey if the new hose is not 'tuned'
