Question What's the value of a VR4 in parts?

Just browsing the classifieds and wondered - 'what's the value of a VR4 in parts?'

We've had a number of members break cars now, Zedy1 does it, Legnum Breaking imported a car from Japan to do it and now (sadly) Diddington Wizard is having a go.*

Obviously modified and add-on parts might increase the total value, as would the desirable bits like Recaro interior and carbon fibre trim. So how much lower will VR4s get before they are worth more as 'spares'?

*I haven't included Osmosis as his car was pretty unique.

I would say that the value you can get from breaking a car would be between 1000 and 2000 , all depends on the parts you have and there condition

Biggest bits will be engine and gearbox , then things like AYC , interior (recaro ) etc etc

Gut feeling I would say if you were willing to wait for all the bits to sell and you were willing to sell them cheap enough I reckon any VR4 sub £2000 is going to be nearly at the break even point. All depends on the condition of the car which is being broken and how many *desirable* parts it has on it.

I can only see the market getting larger both as as a result of the more cars which come into the country and the older they get.

    Depends a lot..

    Engine
    Gearbox
    Diff
    Driveshafts
    Hub Carriers - fl
    Interior
    Wheels
    Exhaust

Then you could sell panels, electrics & gubbins...

I reckon over £2k is possible.... obviously different interiors make a big difference.

It may be worth more than you think. I broke up my Landrover last year and made about £4000 from a 110 with a 3.9V8 when the gearbox failed. I then had to break a Range Rover I bought to replace it but was ripped off when I discovered crash damage and probably made about £5000 which i used to buy my Legnum. But I suppose it depends on demand. there are a lot more land rovers and rangies out there

I think most have it about right. £2k should be possible, but much more will be difficult.

I was looking at breaking my SAAB before we kept it for the wife. A complete car sale would have netted less than £1000 but the desirability of the interior alone makes it worth £500+ with the major parts making it £2K+ without difficulty.
The only problem is that I really want the seats for the Leggie as they are Recaro designed electric, with memory, and heated. They are more comfy than most armchairs yet give fantastic support, something I think the Leggie lacks.

I got my Egyptian God of Life mixed up with my Egyptian God of transport through a semipermeable membrane all confused - an easy mistake to make!

This is the ONLY problem with this Club !!

As another member stated in another thread recently !!

Members are devaluing there cars, instead of suring up the values

Engine(with all ancillaries), Gearbox and Diff are worth a minimum of 2k

If your selling them for any less than that ! Then your doing yourselves and the value of our cars No Favours at all

I say we're not devaluing them... We're just being realistic. At the end of the day, the world beyond www.clubvr4.co.uk hasn't got a clue what a VR-4 is. And worse than that.... They don't care anyway. It's a niche car - I believe more so than a Scooby or a Skyline, etc, etc. So we ain't ever gonna get EVO/Supra/Skyline/GTiR money for them... they just don't have the market and reciognition for high prices.

Same applies to breakers.... No one in their right minds would pay 2K for a used set of running gear when a complete car costs 3K. If you had a car that needed all of that replacing, you'd be better off getting a new car anyway.

Stu, not even tried to be honest as it's now the wife's daily driver. We decided to get rid of her 900 instead so I'll have to keep looking for a bargain set.
I have to agree with Kieran, I picked Ernie up for £2800 and he wasn't the cheapest listed at the time. If anything more serious than a wheel bearing goes I think I'd have to cut my losses and just break the rest of the car. Obviously the money would go back into another VR-4
