    Evo gears reassembled :D

After our problems with the 17 and 18 tooth output shaft we had to remove all of the gears from the 18 tooth and put them all onto the 17 tooth and vice versa.

This weekend we will be installing the set of evo gears with:

    2.928 1st
    1.950 2nd
    1.407 3rd
    1.031 4th
    0.72 5th

    Compared to the stock of:

    3.333
    2.105
    1.407
    1.031
    0.761

I can't beleive we're just about there after all of our set backs!

    Nice work guys

Was there much effort / expense involved in getting the gears off, cause they seemed pretty permanent

Also Brad, what do you reckon my chances would be for getting a similar set in the next couple of months? Assuming this all goes back together (i cant see why it wouldnt) then it could be a good upgrade when i do my clutch

I got Ralliart to remove the gears and swap them over for me.

I don't know about getting another set. The feelers are out so to speak, but I think there might only be two sets in total available. There is another option with a really long 5th gear from another car entirely, it would be 2500rpm at 110kmh, compared to 101kmh with the evo gears and 96kmh with the stock gears, but I don't know if that gear is going to fit on yet.

you're definately straight after myself and Kenneth. If I can get these longer gears to work though, we might have access to quite a few.

Put gears back into gearbox and sealed the gearbox up.

have a couple of things to re-attach to the gearbox, but then its ready to go back in the car.

only waiting for Cusco clutch plates now

    Latest news:

I put all the other bits on the gearbox today and tested that all gears select correctly and spin the output shaft

Sounds a bit clunky but no doubt thats because it has no oil in it yet

Mike: ill need your vice grips again at some point to do that damn bolt up again...

I'll drop them round after work tommorrow if you want. Is it an allen key type of thing in the head? i didnt have a proper look, but i'll bring those as well and see if we can save chewing it up too much.

    Seems like you been busy

What differences in top speed for each gear does this give ?

Have you changed the final drive ratio ! Is it the EVO 1 or the VR 1 ?

The final drive we are using is the stock vr-4 4.111, we needed to swap the output shafts otherwise we would have ended up with something that didn't mesh up properly and a final drive of about 4.35, which isn't the way we want to go at all.

    Nope, not yet.

I have been unable to work on the car due to the weather... so basically I need to do some painting and get the windscreen put in so that I can make the car legal to drive. (or at least look legal enough not to get pulled up as soon as I exit the driveway )
