    FFS other turbo blew apart!

ok so Gary calls me on Tuesday and tells me it's all back together etc and I'm happy, so I organise to take Thursday afternoon off to go and pick up the car, he calls me and tells me that the rear turbo has now done the exact same thing as the front turbo and the compressor wheel has come off that one as well.

He's going to try his hardest to get another turbo on there before the weekend, but he isn't sure if he can do it.

if I do pick it up, it will be in the morning, so I won't be able to come and see Mike, but I might be able to make it to Williams place in the afternoon.

The good news is that the guy who rebuilt the turbos is Steve Murch, who is generally regarded as the absolute king of turbo tech in NZ, so I'm going to go and see him and get him to sort out something for me.

Yeah he rebuilt the turbos for someone else who never fitted them to his car, so I bought them and got them fitted to my car, and on both of them the nut that holds the compressor wheel on has come off.

Excuse my ignorance, but..............won't that cause all sorts of trouble and damage, especially to the turbine blades.

And where did the nut end up...............in the intake side or worse still, somewhere down the exhaust?

Hope those turbos aren't damaged...............makes me feel a little better I didn't buy those turbos myself.

Hope it all sorts itself out, and without too much additional cost.

Sheesh Bradc. Sorry to hear that.

You have the patience of a "saint". They say if you create or cause a "miracle" you can be sainted. Getting your VR-4 on the road, should qualify.

Any how, keep you spirits up. At least you have a nother VR-4 for running around in.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

Wynn, just like the front turbo that died last week, the compressor blades are so close together that it just gets stuck in the blades. Both of those turbos are completely ****ed, I'm taking them back to Steve Murch and he's going to look at them and see what happened.

Thanks for all the well wishes though guys

Perhaps too many gay insuinuations? Apparently god doesn't like gays. (Or at least thats what a lot of "Christians" seem to believe)

Did it not occur to them to check the assembly on the rear as well?

That is some A-Grade bad luck youv got going on lately, id be inclined to buy a lotto ticket.

Are you able to claim any sort of guarantee off the people who remanufactured them, even if you have to go through the guy you bought them off. I cant imagine rebuilding two turbos will be cheap or free...

Also how can a turbo come apart, and not ruin the engine? I dont really get it that well, but i know when my dads old GTB legacy primary came apart it did $5k worth of something to the engine, or do they not make it that far past all the intake manifold and throttlebody etc?

    Good luck getting it sorted.

Steve - I took pics today of it. Doesn't it look nice and angry on those angles?

Mike - they took the intake pipe off from the back turbo and appeared to be on tightly, but of course there isn't a way you can check how well it is on without taking the turbo off and holding the turbine side and making sure that it is on there well. Anyway, I'm not too fussed, the stock turbos will still make a ton of power

Brad... are you ever gonna get the bonnet finished? Didn't you buy that thing 2 years ago?

Really really sorry to hear that.

I'm just feeling a little lucky now as I was very very close to bidding on those and that could have been me looking at rooted turbos. Let us know what Steve Murch says about this as I for one will be interested to know what his explaination for all this is........... Looks like someone didn't do their job right to me...............

Glad to see that you're taking all these trials and tribulations in your stride. By the look of the car in the pics it will all seem worth it when it finally comes together for you.

Good luck from here on in.
