    Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Got back last night after 3 fantastic days at Goodwood. Rained on Sunday but that didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm.

Never been before but it is a great event for petrolheads. From classic racers to state of the art F1 machines with Red Bull, Honda and Williams all putting in an appearance on "the hill" and YES........ Lewis Hamilton did come on Sunday morning and did a couple of runs in the McLaren.

One thing I particularly enjoyed, was the Forest Rally Stage at the top of the hill. 1.6 miles of tree lined, chalk based track. Again all manner of cars from a 1963 works Cooper S driven by Paddy Hopkirk (some senior members may recall) through to full blown WRC cars driven by the likes of Colin McRee, Malcolm Wilson, Matt Wilson, Petter Solberg, Stig Blomquist, Carlos Sainz and Hannu Mikola to name but few.

There should be an hour telly prog on ITV next month if anyone is interested.

Will keep my eyes open for that - should be interesting.

Was it the sort of thing the whole family enjoyed, or is it very much of interest to petrolheads only? ie. plenty to do other than gawp at loud cars all day (I realise this is the main aspect!!).

Very much a family thing from youngsters to Granny and Grandad but you'd need to have more than a passing interest in petrol fumes. Loads of things to see and do including BMX bike and skate board demos, Bowler Wildcat circuit taking passenger (for a fee), several different 4 x 4 demos and passenger rides etc. The most memorable to watch was the Porche stand where they had 5 Cayenne's giving demos and rides. What a job for the sales guys going hell for leather around a muddy field, 4 wheel drifting, the lot. Full access to the paddock areas to see all the cars and bikes up close and personal.

Not quite, he just used the bank for guidance Later in the day he did miss a corner completely and disappeared into the woods with minimal damage. It was quite eventful, Paddy Hopkirk put the Cooper S on it's side and we found a "Quattro" with it's nose up a tree!

    Excellent pics ...

I have been to Goodwood FoS before and agree that it's a great day out.

What is that orange supercar? I recognise it but can't think what it is ...

A konisegg....... spelt something like that. They put a Veyron up the hill as well - phenominal acceleration.

yeah, I'm a GRRC Member, so of course I'd recommend it

Went on Friday with a non-petrolhead mate... he had a great time: couldn't believe how fast an F1 car is - and you get v close to them at Goodwood.

& close to the stars - I managed a quick "hello" with Derek Bell, who's won a few races in his time

This Hemi under glass was a hoot - unbelievably loud in the paddock

The Revival meeting at the end of August is a blast: everything's re-65, so no lycra & trainers - we go as a family as an 'end of summer' treat, for everybody.
    Highly reccomended
