Red face HELP! ~ Searching for a LEGNUM.........

    Hello all.....

I have been looking at Legnums on and off for a while now...because they are fast..I think incredible looking cars. But I have been a bit unsure.

I am put-off by alot of the cloth interiors...and prefer manual...so my search for a manual with Leather has made the likelyhood of success even slimmer.

    Advice that I need:

What are these cars like to run?
    What is the servicing like?
    Parts etc....?

What performance do you chaps experience in the real world?
    MPG?

I would like as much info about them as possible.

I drive a TVR so am used to F_A_S_T.....but I also need three other things:

    Reliable []
Possible to drive in the mud and rain......
    Room for my dogs.....

    Surely this is a Legnum??

    Firstly welcome to the Club

What are these cars like to run? Fantastic !!

What is the servicing like? Not too bad needs doing every 4.5 K Also
we have our own in house servicing available through WRD

Parts etc....? New part can be expensive if sourced thru Mitsi but there planty
    of other options

What performance do you chaps experience in the real world? 0 - 60 in about 6 secs.

    MPG Average about 20. Best about 24. On track 8 - 10.

Plenty more info on here as well

The cloth interiors are much better in the facelift cars IMO. That is late 1998 onwards. I can't argue with anything written on MPBVr4's post above, to be honest. A 6-6.5 standard 0-60 can be brought down by a second just by fitting an exhaust and a boost controller. Many of us have done this and not many of us have regretted it. I average about 18 mpg, but I am probably doing more town driving and more traffic light GPs than several on here.

For comparisons from a TVR driver, have a look at this thread: http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12048
aridell took his TVR to OZ rather than his VR4 though, so that must say something! I think the VR4, especially the Legnum, is a brilliant all rounder rather than a purpose built fast car. Whereabouts in the country are you? Maybe a local member will take you for a spin?

    Thanks for the advice chaps...

I'm based in Devon...[see the need for 4x4 to sludge through the lanes...]

I'm looking to keep this as a stablemate to the TVR....which is irreplaceable and unbeatable for traffic light GP's and noise pollution...

Of course...it is held together with sellotape - but thats another matter.....

Try a VR4 with boost controller in the wet.

I'll have a go at any TVR in the wet!! (Probably in the dry too, but I wouldn't be expecting to win!)

In fact, I'm sure there is a bit in one of our videos from the last Ring trip showing three of us VR-4s (well two VR-4s and a VR-2) steaming past a TVR in the wet ...

In the wet???!!! ~ you've got to be kidding........

Even in the mild-damp I would only be able to flip myself shiny-side-down in the TVR

If I see any of you lot in VR-4's...in the wet......or even on a road with corners....I'm gonna pretend I haven't seen you and drive off

    On a long....straight.....DRY road ~ I'll play

But only because I can get up to 60 in less than 4

The one you want to see has an aftermarket exhaust, a turbo timer, and something else above the wiper controls - maybe a boost guage?

It looks like it may have been loved.

Funnily enough, that car was being sniffed at by another potential member the other day... Have a look at this thread, I've aired my thoughts about the car in it, as have several others

    Right...

I thought it was a bit on the expensive side. However I am tempted by the colour combo - leather and manual box.

I REALLY want leather...and a black car.....but would consider silver or grey. Manual is preferable....is the other members car mentioned on the thread still for sale??

Also --> I really like the twin exit exhausts as opposed to the big single...where are they from ?? ?? ??

To be honest if you want black, beige leather and manual, then buy it! Just bear in mind that its value will not be recovered easily when it is time to sell.

The other car belongs(ed?) to Axeboy. Have a search in the classifieds for his, or send him a PM. I can't remember if he has sold it or not!

Hi chaps just jumping in on another newbies thread, i too am looking at the Legnum VR4. Currently i drive a GTO normally aspirated. Do quite a bit of track and 1/4mile times too. Whats the standard 1/4mile time for a manual VR4. i have seem someones post mentioning a 15 sec 1/4mile?

    Cheers

Hi Mike - Welcome to CVR-4!

15 seconds is the Tiptronic time. Generally speaking, a completely standard auto will run a 1/4 in the 15.0 <-> 15.8 second bracket, depending on the car, the launch, etc etc.

Not sure what manuals do as standard. The only useful comparrison I can offer is that the stuff that *typically* makes a Auto Legnum do a 14.5ish second 1/4 (ie, Boost controller, decat, HKS exhaust and intake) made Barry's manual do a 13.9(I think?) second pass. But it does vary wildly from car to car!!

Cheers for swift response. Am after the twin turbos and am also looking at the GTO twin turbo/VR4(USA badge) The Legnum attracts me cos of its 'sleeper' badge and practicallity. In the GTO every tw#t wants a go at the lights and its so hard to resist. My GTO n/a just ran a 15.7 so i dont want to lose power. Some cracking examples on here. well done folks. Just spending my evening reading through all your guides. some good info.

This one was mentioned recently in Autocar magazine as "an underrated super estate, and it's not from Germany" It was highlighted in their "seen in classifieds" section.

From the far reaches of the other side of the world.. I had occaison to recently tow a largish trailer with a load of wall lining on board in my Leggie. Should have seen the looks on other drivers faces when they got dropped at the lights by a 'station wagon' with a loaded trailer. Now THATS a sleeper

For the record mine is basically stock with a big exhaust and pod with air ducting up front. The exhaust is the big helper .
It's also got 18/225/40, Recaro interior and momo wheel but I think it's the ClubVR4 sticker that makes it go faster.

For the record it is a good station wagon as well, can handle quite a load with the back seat folded down, most of my new bathroom has come home stuffed in there.

    Good luck.
    Watch out, I've got a VR4 and a 4G61T and I'm not afraid to use them !
