    Torquing Bolts

I seem to have a habit of shearing and snapping every single bolt I touch on the car. They rust, and they just shear off!

Today when I put in new a new rear bearing hub (again!) one of the bearing bolts just seem to go on and on and on, and eventually...SNAPPED. The bolts are new too! The bolts seem to 'stretch' which I can see as it protrudes out from the other side more than its natural length!

My torque wrench is brand new! Would putting too much grease on the bolts give enough 'slip' for it to go beyond the required torque? (if that makes sense)

    Cheers,
    scc

Yes. Unless otherwise stated, torque settings are for dry clean threads.
