    Amercian Muscle Car Memories

From 1964 to 1972 was the golden years of muscle cars. All American car makers - or virtually all of their divisions - rushed to produce multiple muscle models to satisfy the hot demand from car enthusiasts.

    Ford Mustang - 1964
    Pontiac GTO - 1964
    Chevrolet Camaro - 1967
    Dodge Charger - 1968
    Pontiac Firebird - 1970

Then US Muscle Car era ended, caused by safety, fuel efficiency, etc.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

True, but I would say it's enjoying a renaissance.

a friend of mine had a Mach 1 mustang , bloody ugly but the power was unreal ,

'wheel spin in third sir ?'
    'not a problem sir'
'in the dry you say sir? at 30 mph sir? your wish is my comand'

he once described the carb as a bucket with a fuel pipe going in

now a gt500 'stang would do me nicely

Last time I was in the states we were driving along in bf's bright red Chevy Impala (2000, 3.8 V6). We came up alongside a bright red '67 Chevy Impala convertible V8 - glass packs, etc. A little "toot toot" on the horn from our side and he responded... "VROOOOOOOOM!". Not even a muscle car, but sounded awesome.

The new muscle cars are a bit wider ranging than the old though. Previously they were largely limited to coupes (and convertibles) - now they're making saloons (Charger SRT-8, 300C SRT-8), SUVs (Grand Cherokee SRT-8, Hennessey SRT600) and even pick-up trucks (RAM SRT-10). In fact, the coupes seem to be suffering a bit - the GTO (Monaro) has been dropped, the Charger became a saloon, the mustang as it comes from ford is a bit weedy (but Roush and Shelby variants aren't!). The forthcoming Camaro, however, and the Dodge Challenger concept could well revive the coupes.
It's been a crazy year, But through all the damage done,
I have turned and I have learned, To make next year a better one,
    Singing Oh Hallelujah,
    Singing Oh I am home.

    I'd have a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T - Classic Pony Car.

In terms of more contemporary metal.... The Roush Mustang looked awesome in the latest Jeremy Clarkson DVD and I look forward to the new version of the challenger!

You can rent one of these from Hertz in the USA: the Shelby Mustang GT-H 350 Nice.
