I'm looking at replacing the interior carpet on my legnum - the beige effect is now decidedly dirty and patchy (thanks to a previous Japanses smoker!).
I tried to clean it but the carpet moulding seems to be mainly plastic with a very thin layer of plastic fibre that just doesn't seem to respond to detergents or steam cleaners at all.
After looking over a couple of the magazines in WHSmiths it seems the done thing is to get your car retrimmed. But how easy is it to do yourself?
For a laugh I got a quote from Mitsubishi for a replacement carpet - £600 + VAT!!!!!
So, I'm looking at doing it myself. Has anybody tried this?
I have had the seats out to replace them with electric seats so it doesn't seem too hard to get the carpet out - but how can I re-cover it / replace it with new stuff? Regular carpet wouldn't stretch around the moulding corners with out some crafty snipping and hidden stitching. I thought about Alcantara (relatively cheap on ebay and I wouldn't need too much) - would this stretch and form around the mouldings? Presumably I would glue it onto the existing dirty carpet moulding.
Thoughts? Or can anybody recommend a good value retrimmer that could do it for less than £600?
