    subaru legacy b4

    guys,

what are your thoughts on this car?

twin turbo, 4wd similiar to the saloon vr4 ...

issues iv found are that there is a massive flat spot in the rev range as a result of the first turbo being to small and coming it at 2k revs and the seond being a bit bigger but coming in at about 4k revs.

could be a nice alternative to vr4 lovers that feel the fuel economy is killing them. running around town on the first turbo looks to give about 25-27mpg on average with the rate dropping when you hoon it on the motorway.

anyways just wanted your opinion as i trust the judgement of the petrol heads on here.

sorry for the blasphemy above !!

I like them, and had a butchers at one before buying the VR4. The interior was equally as ghastly as the VR4 pub carpet but the standard seats were very supportive for fast road driving, although I didn't test drive the one I saw.

I think the flat spot issue could be a real PITA, are their any relatively cheap fixes to resolve it? and are upgrades in general easy to get hold of? brakes, reasonable power hikes etc?

The only way to get around the silly flat spot is to buy an STi motor and put it in there, but then you don't get any power until about 4000rpm.

Theres a powder blue RHD one with dark grey wheels round the corner, never seen the colour combination before and I like it. They'll let me have it for less than 300€ but it has been stood for a while and has no tax/mot. Would have a little bit of work before it was sorted but at the price may be worth a resale.

Heidi was going to have it but for £109/month we can ave a brand new Mini Cooper S so we left it.

Flat spot is mainly down to people messing with the exhaust: It's not really that bad when it's all standard.

i know alot of people who have owned subarus from the b4 to wrx's. everyone one if them had constant problems! then they would have me to fix and but meh, just not interested in them!

if i were to own a subbie (read - if i was an idiot) i would prob have a blitzen b4 but yea, just the bad luck my mates have had with them i wouldnt touch one!

last one of my mates to own one she got me to drive it, i told her it was slow, took her to a car yard and she drove an evo and traded up!

Funnily enough my mate bought a subaru GTB legacy wagon instead of a legnum a week ago, its a 2000, and is a nice car, but i was shocked at how slow off the line it was, and that big noticable dead spot... Its nice that it pulls hard to 7000+, but i think the vr4 would beat it easy.

Oh yeah, and even though he saves about $20 a tank for the same distance as the VR, his insurance is $400 more than mine, same age, 4wd turbos mine is insured for 2k more than his, so how much cheaper are they really?

    It's better than the legnum.
    It's still not very good.

However, you CAN fit a PowerFC, which dramatically improves things.

My Brother has discovered this with his and he just tries to stay at the higher revs.

The VR-4 with both at around 3,000 rpm is better.
We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here
