Rhubarb is great with some sugar...
Everything has been said about this departure - I've never met you but by the sounds of things you need a change to help make things better for yourself, I hope this works out for you. Thanks for creating this knowledge-fest resource that I now find myself scouring daily...whatever you go on to do, I hope it is very successful and keeps your interest piqued (I think that is the word I'm looking for!).
The rhubarb comment was in regard to someone asking what can be said that hasn't already been said...
The Quest for Singletrack is Endless...
It has all been said i think... But its definately not going to be the same without you. I mean, who is going to be there handing me cans of irn bru in the mornings after? This club is definately a credit to you, and you will be sorely missed. You should definately come to some meets though, even if its only for the Buckie!
Anyone care to explain wot this is all about?
Barry, I'll be kicking your arse sometime soon!

We all - to a man - wish that we still had Barry here as he always had been.
Been there myself: sometimes you just need to move on from something that's gradually taken over half your life...including your identity. Best wishes for the future and thank you for creating one of the best reasons to own a VR4.
Sorry, but the first post in this thread (and to a lesser extent the "Barry IS the club" posts) just annoyed and depressed me.
I don't know the guy very well, but to me there's something a bit odd about the way he's left - I know I ought to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then he's not actually left any doubt himself by making this post. It clearly surprised everybody, committee members now responsible for the upkeeping of the website included, so to me it's either the guy has got upset over something or he's in a bit of strife personally. I accept he may have got bored and wanted a change as well, but the sudden nature of his leaving makes this hard to believe...but like I say, I don't know him very well. I hope he's ok and happy for sure, but my point to all you now is...move on, onwards and upwards, etc. The club is NOT just Barry!!
The technical knowledge at the figertips of members is astonishing - Richard, Kieran and all should be proud of the library that's been created - it was a massive help to me for the three years I was a member.
WRD Motorsport - tireless efforts from Richy, Lors, John, Derek, and Wouter who made made big financial, physical, and emotional sacrifices to start a club-focussed technical centre. Those of us that used this as a service/repair centre know the loss. Those of us that used this as an opporunity to socialise and meet-up know the loss. Why were they not sponsored by the club?!?!? Where did all my membership funds and overpriced track sessions go? ClubVR4 missed a BIG chance there - name another club that had something even remotely like this.
Andy and Pete have given up a great deal in ensuring the club runs day-to-day. I've never heard either of them ask for anything in return for this, but their focus allows all the meets to go ahead and for all the valuable information to be readily available.
The biggest thing for me though is the social aspect of the club. It's all very well having a forum to talk about things, but having fabulously generous and enthusiastic people like Nick, Jane, Pete, Andy, Derek, and many others organise VR4-centric events for likeminded friendly people to get together either home or abroad in the way they have for the past 4 years is what made this club Full Stop!
So stop the "oh barry, barry" posts, please. He's gone (maybe), get on with it.
All the best CVR4,
James
(and no, I'm not storming off after this post!)
James, I understand your sentiments, but don't entirely agree with them.
There are many people who put time into the club, and not just current or past committee members. The club would not be the same if we weren't all a part of it and it is certainly not just Barry. However, if you had to choose a single person that has had the biggest influence on this place that we all enjoy then I think Barry would be the clear winner.
I whole-heartedly agree with you on the social side of things. That is why I have been organising most of the main events for the last few years. And that is the big part for me - I have made many friends through these events and hope to continue to do so for years ahead. Again, though, I feel that without Barrys input the events would not have occurred and I would not have the friends I now have.
So for me this announcement was a very sad one. I am not sorry for stating that. I am sorry if people think that I have said Barry is the only person that matters - I think there are many other key members that could leave a hole nearly as big if they left. And as you rightly said, without a combination of everybody involved this club would not be the same.
knowing Barry i believe he would agree with both of the above posts..
thats i have to say on the matter
Hey
Just to let you know, Barry is absolutely fine, or so he appears to be. He is in no major strife as is quoted. He is just consumed 24/7 by his job. Knowing Barry's nature you will know just how dedicated he is to anything he starts and how distracted he gets. Nope, he is not able to multi task in the slightest!!!
He was sat there on Sunday whilst we were eating brekkie working away on the project with work on the laptop - Much to my dismay as its been going on for months now!! This should calm down after the 20th Dec deadline. Maybe he'll come back on after xmas when everything has settled with work and family - who knows Fingers crossed.
Take Care Guys and Girlies

PS> I also miss him coming on here. Fortunately being his partner I speak to him all the time! He seems to be changing as does his outlook and expectations in life of people, projects and himself- I dunno, he's growing up I think. Still keeping his car tho. x
Moving On
Glad to hear you are both fine and have a Merry Xmas and great New Year
