    Questions from newbie!!

Hi guys looking to buy a vr4 legnum.

The wife has asked me what the fuel economy is like. Have read various stories all with different results, so i thought i would ask the experts!

Do they come fitted with a trip computer to tell average mpg etc?

All i can think of at the mo, but you can expect more questions later!!

    Hello Ken! Welcome to Clubvr4!

To answer your questions - No, a trip computer was not fitted.

As for 'real world' MPG from a VR-4, expect the following and you won't be shocked - These firgures are based on Automatics (which the majority of VR-4s are):

    Around 21~22MPG average

    Around 25MPG on a run

Around 18~20mpg if you just potter about town.

Yes, frugal beasts they are not!

    Hi Ken,

On a trip to Croatia in summer 2006 I posted the following info on my return. My daughter kept very detailed data as requested and so the info is correct .......

    QUOTE:

Hi everyone, hope you're all OK after my brief sojourn to Croatia.

The whole trip was somewhat uneventful but a few facts that may be of interest to you.

Firstly and foremost ...... the VR4 behaved impeccably and didn't miss a beat for the duration of the trip. (Probably due to Rich [WRD] servicing it prior to my departure!)

Miles from Leicester to Split on the Adriatic = 1,333

Total miles there and back (including trips whilst there) = 3,057

    Total fuel stops = 18

    Total litres = 546.08 (120.12 gallons)

    Total fuel cost = £518.69

Total cost per mile (fuel only) = £0.17

Best fuel economy was on one leg where I did 241 miles and achieved 28 mpg

Worst fuel economy was on one leg (on brand new Croatian motorway) where I did 144 miles and achieved 17.45 mpg

Top speed I achieved was roughly 130/140 mph on German autobahn for a couple minutes

Top sustained speed was about 110/130 mph for about one hour on empty Croatian motorway

Overall, for the whole trip, the car achieved a very creditable 25.45 mpg

I still insist that with normal driving around 25mpg is possible, and 30mpg is easy to get if you go on long motorway trips

And we've still to see anyone post such fuel economy figures in the UK. Physician's post above proves that it *can* be done, however in day to day traffic you're just not going to get those kind of figures.

feck me, with normal driving my v6 only just manages 26, on a long run its up to about 33/36 ish, i have managed a lot more than that once but bollox to that any more, it was bloody hard work. if i drive the V6 like i do the van then i get around 14mpg, which is annoying coz the van still gets 50 mpg and tbh isn't that much slower

even on the run up to wellsford and back (and we weren't going slow) I did 26mpg. My car always seems to be quite good on fuel.

The ST-R is awesome though, done 623km to the first flicker of the fuel light coming down my road, will fill it up in a few days, I'm hoping for it to come out at over 35mpg, also only on 91 octane!

1x drive up to mangawhai heads, 1x drive up to orewa, and about 50km of motorway driving around my place.

Brad - I'd never get those figures, try as I might - the temptation to give it some welly on occasion is just too great!

I used to regularly get 24-27mpg commuting 35 miles to Milton Keynes on single carriageways. As the car was also used for business travel I had to keep accurate records. 18-19 is definitely the norm around town but the best I ever achieved was 30-31 driving to Switzerland, long periods of constant throttle with few stop starts where the weight takes its' toll.
