    what are my options?

OK, I do not have MMCS but I have a Jap import Carozzeria (whatever it's called) double DIN stereo (quite big).

I'd like to replace this with something that plays MP3 cd's, has iPod or similar input and perhaps even a little TV screen or computer that I could plug in some sort of input device to (maybe even IrDA or Bluetooth Keyboard?).

Maybe someone can post some links to some goodies that I can look at please!

    Thanks

I have a Pioneer AVIC-HD1BT 2DIN unit in both my 8G VR2 and my black 6G GTI which do a great job and look good too.

They have sat-nav, MP3, harddisk (both for sat-nav & music storage), radio, DVD, dual-zone output, 2 A/V inputs, pre-outputs, rear-cam input, bluetooth, ipod-control-connector (I have the optional ipod-CB100 box installed too), touch screen, 3D gyro thingy with digital gauges (accelleration, volts, speed, etc) etc. Only thing "missing" is DivX support.

    see some pics:

Lol @ "you" budget. No idea actually, as I've no clue how much these things cost. I like the setup that MarkSanne has - your interior looks really good, especially with the black leather *jealous*

Mind you a quick price search reveals that very setup for GBP 2000 *gulp*

Carsten - what can one get for $1000 or so and what are the outlets (websites) in NZ that I can look at?

@ingletor: thanks for the compliment about the interiour (I still love it too), about the pioneer: indeed a new one is roughly about 2200 -2500 euro, but I own two (both 2nd hand) and the most I've spend on one is 1400 euro (the other was 1200) and currently I'm on the lookout for a third (for the upcoming Legnum) and 2nd hand prices are down to about 800-1000 euro. Still a lot of money, but for this all-in-one pleasure-package it's almost a bargain.

Heh, even second hand they're still quite pricey for me (earning NZ peso) - found this in NZ which is more within my range:

Is it 2 DIN though? I can't really tell - I'm guessing it is with 3.5" screen

Nah - go for double din! It looks so much better and the screens are a sensible size!

JVC KDAVX33 Regular price: $649.95 Sale price: $599.95 US$ from NZ NZ$1200 The us dallor is not that low.
Shop around dude, you can save a heap of money buying that sort of unit out of the states.
But there are some down sides, if it brakes under warranty there can be a huge delay (time) in getting it fixed.

My advise is to do your research and haggle the price, thats if you have the balls to do it, no offense but a lot of people don't.
