Thumbs up 2009 CVR4 European Roadtrip

Yes you read it right........2009 ! A trip like this not only takes a lot of planning, but also saving up.....hence the notice.

So, here's the idea in principle. We depart from Dover and travel to Nurburg. People can then have some time on the Nurburgring as a driver or passenger. Please note that this trip is NOT aimed at being a Ring trip, it just makes sense to "pop in" for people to experience it. The trip is open to everyone who wants to experience some of the best roads around, therefore single people, couples and families are all welcome.

From there we will then travel through Germany, Switzerland & Italy using some of the famous roads : San Bernardino Pass, Stelvio Pass, Col De Turini etc. The exact route is yet to be finalised, but let's just say it will be several days of driving some of the best roads in Europe. We will then maybe return via the Ring again, or maybe through France.

In terms of dates, again this is to be finalised but I would say May/June time once the weather is more stable and the various roads are all guaranteed to be open.

So, at this stage it's a list of "who's interested". We then have months of discussion and planning ahead of us to ensure the event is a huge success and something people will never forget. There will be so much to organise that I also think we will need several people working together to arrange things such as routes, hotels, information etc

There will have to be a logical order to things. For example, first thing will be to agree a date so people can book time off work. We cannot guarantee the Ring being open as the dates wont be out until early 2009, but we cannot wait that long IMO. Then I would suggest we book the ferry crossing, and then plan the routes/hotels etc.

    Here's a couple pix as a tempter.

    Col De Turini:

    Davos to Stelvio:

    San Bernardino Pass

    Stelvio Pass North

    Stelvio Pass South

So, here's the list of interested people:

I reckon it's going to be a week max - maybe less. If we plan it we can depart Dover on the Saturday morning and drive to Nurburg. Spend all day Sunday at the Ring and then begin our route through Europe on the Monday. Then we can go at our own pace, but I reckon we plan to return the following Friday/Sat so people have time to recover a day or two before returning to work. I dont think going into two weeks will make it viable for some, as they will not want to use up more holiday on this.

I was going to post that John. I am happy to allow people to use the CVR4 account but you won't earn any interest from it (it doesn't pay any due to the type of account). The offer is there if you want it though, in fact maybe setting up a standing order every week/month would make sense so once it's left your account you cant touch it.

Oh, of course a full refund of any savings they pay into the CVR4 account. But, no doubt they would lose out money on any ferries/hotels etc booked.

Maybe we could open a special account somewhere purely for this. I have a First Direct account I dont use for example. Then any interest earned could be used to fund a couple of evening's entertainment once we are there !

No idea at this stage mate.....but working on 1200 miles around Europe @28 mpg that would be around £300 fuel. Ferries I reckon we can get for £75 return. Hotels, well say £75 a night. Plus you have food, alcohol, toll roads? etc. No-one is saying it will be cheap, but this will be a trip to remember for sure.....and one I would love to do while I still have the VR4

Well done mate.......I too normally never plan that far ahead, but I wanted to give as many people as possible a chance to make this in terms of booking time off, saving up etc.
