Brad, i think you need to have a look at buying a diesel. That Mitsi ute my dad has just bought really is economic. I filled it up last night, and even with $1.25l for diesel, it cost $70 for a tank, which has taken me 660ish k's. And thats treating it like **** (first rear wheel drive iv had in 3 or 4 years) and no motorway driving.

Even with road user charges thats a lot cheaper than the STR. Plus its dual cab, and has enough room to stick whatever in the back.

Apart from being old, rattley and having very high k's, im starting to like it - or at least the extra $$

very high km's? One of our customers has an L200 with 560,000km's on it!

I intently dislike diesel, nothing other than a 740d or Q7 4.2tdi will convince me otherwise! The Legnum is just too good to get rid of though. Leather + Moonroof + Manual + 4wd + Towbar + V6 sound and power + Meister Blue + RPF1 wheels, it's just too good to sell

Yeah well anything over 250Ks counts as high for me, considering both my legnums have died in the low 70's

But yeah thats the same thing with why i will always keep the VR4 instead of buying something more economic, its a choice, and like kenneths says so long as you are aware of what it is costing versus changing, then why not spend the extra $20-30 a week and drive something more comfortable

and by the time we sell the Legnum, buy a ute (which hold their value better) etc it just isn't worth it unless petrol is $5 a litre - perhaps next year!

Got 9.11l/100km or 31mpg out of the last tank, 507km to 46.2 litres which isn't so good.

perhaps I should just cheat and put 215/40/17 tyres on, it will give 3% more km's on the odometer, and should put about the same amount less load on the engine

    31mpg is good, i usually get 23-25mpg.

And using smaller tyres would mean the engine would be doing more revs to cover the same distance which means more fuel being used.

I echo the above - 31mpg out of a 4WD 2.5V6 is absolutely fine - It's a tip as well isn't it? If it is, then it's REALLY good. It's still within the spec for a manual though.

Just looked up the MPG figures for the UK V6 - And bearing in mind they're just 2WD, it quotes 31MPG for the manual and 29 for the auto.

hell no, this is a manual! I wouldn't have a 4 speed auto!

Kamal - reported km's travelled would be higher though with smaller tyres

I drove it out last night (and christened it but thats another subject, tequila and American girl ftw!) and I've done about 160km in it, I'll trash it around a bit this morning and fill it to the brim with 98 octane, I'll reset the ecu and it should go to the 'good' map rather than the other map it has most likely been using on 91 octane.

prius = small boot, no power, high purchase cost, and most importantly, FWD IS SATAN

I can drop the Evo scan cable off over the weekend if you want.

Do you want the standard VR4 springs I have ?

They are just taking up room in my garage at the moment.

    isn't 9l/100km pretty good ???

I only get 7.5l/100km from my 86 laser...

Richard - when I drive it I normally get 8.5-9l/100km.

I'm keen for the evo scan cable and semi keen for the springs, I don't know if they will be higher than the stock ones or not. The ST-R's weigh about 100kg less than a VR-4, so the front might end up even higher.

I can drop the parts off on Friday around 11-12

If you don't use the springs then just give them back after...

I wouldn't know how to fit them anyway, so you'll have to help me or not bring them around at all

    I'll make sure I'm home.

Try my little trick of running the tyres at 40psi. Given that I do mainly mororway driving the extra harshness has little effect. In therory the centres of the tyres should wear out first but as I hardly brake for corners I still manage to wear he edges off the tyres first! The increase in mpg is about 5-10% .
Think you have a problem with fuel ecomony? As i am just returning to racing after a couple of years lay off I have just got prices for fuel for my car. Racing fuel in the UK is now over £3 per L and my tank takes 125L ; I will likeley do 3 tanks during the race weekend. You can do the maths and yes the decimal point is in the correct place! ouch.
If you have a problem with getting Amsoil just contact me on 07949 944523 email don@performanceoilsltd.co.uk or web at http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/
