oh no what have i broken now!!!

well my cars making bad sounds AGAIN!!! it only been 3 months since the gearbox bearing!


now the sound is similar to a stuffed CV, clunk clunk clunk....

its always there while the wheels are turning....
louder under load (accelerating), and speeds up when the car speeds up,

if i depress the clutch the noise is still there, just not loud,


ive had the car off the ground, and running in second gear, and i can hear it,
i believe its comming from the rear end,

the AYC light has not come on to indicate a fault,
and appears to function normally...

i have put my hand on the rear diff housing and i can feel a bit of a clunk,
but this could be being transfered thru the driveline???

i have quickly checked cv's and they appear fine (the outer ones at least)

any guess's as to what it is??

can you feel it if you put your hand on the tranfer case?

how much backlash is there in the driveshat? ie if you grab it and turn it how far does it turn before the diff turns

handbrke has done something stupid?

any play in the rear wheels?

there is a tiny bit of play in the rear right wheel bearing.
but the noise is not coming from the bearing.

if i spin the front right wheel, its about 1/2 to 3/4 a rotation befor the back ones will start to turn.

i didnt try touch the tansfercase, but will do this weekend, its parked up in the garage for now, gonna drive the ST until this problem is sorted.

hand break appears to be working as it should.

yeah i thought maybe after you adjusted the hand brake it might have started binding, but obviously not that!

you really need to grab the driveshft from transfer case to rear diff and see howmuch play there is.

its hard to say without actually hearing it!

i was going to suggest bring it to my work and put it on the hoist but you prob dont want to drive it that far!

daves just been here, leaning towards rear diff having broken some teeth off some gears. i know im doing easter weekend!

want my diff? they aren't hard to swap in and out and we just test to see if it is dead or not

could do, im gonna pull it out next weekend. open it up and see how bad it is,
might be worth having it strenthend/rebuilt than going with a 2nd hand unit...

wasnt you one leaking ayc fluid into the diff or was it changed for another reason?

nahh, swapped that one for another one. This one has done 110km and is in good condition

just a question, anyone else managed to break a diff? never actually heard of them breaking before!
