    Known Issue???

    Hi Guys,

just reading through the VR4 buyers guide again and spotted a bit about there being a known issue with the (auto) gear change being quite noticable on a light throttle - whats the fix??

although i dont have the vr4 i do notice something similar when on a light throttle when the autobox changes from 3rd to 4th at around 37mph you do feel it - it doesnt jolt or anything - but it is noticable compared to the other gears - which are so smooth you can hardly tell when its changed gear.

i'll be booking it in for a service next saturday anyway

    any advice would be great!!
    cheers!

Mine does that, but it's sometimes from 2nd to 3rd when under medium acceleration. It's not so much a notchy change, rather a sensation that the car slows down momentarily while changing up at about 35-38.

I guess it's something to do with the ETECSII intelligent 'box and the fact that I don't normally tootle around between 30 and 40 and it has actually held 2nd for longer to see if I am going to press the metal as I usually do. However, when I don't it changes up, by which time I'm going a bit faster than it would normally change up and as a result can't do such a clean change. It's nothing like the BANG I used to get when I confused the hell out of the ETECSII box on my Carisma a couple of times. Kick down at about 60, then immediately lift off, then floor it again. The bang it made was impressive and not recommended for continued life of the gearbox or engine, though when I sold it at 150,000mls the whole car was as sweet as a nut. And that Dover Black paint! Wow!

Back to the Galant. Another thing I've noticed too is on some occasions when I've floored it in 1st the gearchange up to 2nd is incredibly quick if I keep my foot down. I've never felt anything like it. They say the WV AUDI DSG box is fast. Pah! My Galant's 'box is fantastic! :-D

suggest having the accumalator seals changed in the gearbox they are located behind the valve chest . the original seals are teflon split rings which in mileage wear if u replace them have them replaced with rubber o rings this will sought the problem and make all gear changes smooth . you may need auto gearbox specialist to carry this out as many pitfalls u may incounter.

The new VAG auto 'box changes in 0.002 of a second :wow:

I think they should have fitted VR4s with something similar - Why should the Germans get the best toys [gearbox-wise at least !]

The INVECS-II was a licensed design from Porsche, wasn't it? We do get German toys you see!... But only after the Germans have finished playing with them!
