Paul, I have hi-vis dash off vr4 too, although need picture of rev counter pcb board from classic V6. Anyway, still have saved somwhere in my pc pictures of pcb from GDI, so maybe I can get some clues from there. It's just comparison of circuit and elements.
At the moment I'm bit poorly, lying in bed with cold/flu so, it must wait.
Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Just a quick question before i go pulling my instrument cluster from the dash will i need to change my surround as the one that is fitted at the moment does not have the dimmer control on it.

Not really, although you won't have a dimming feature.

Where does the dimmer control connect to, what contacts etc?
I have the surround with dimmer control and it's connected there, but where should it go to on the other end....

The shroud has a little roller thing to the right of the steering wheel. I would imagine yours won't, so you might have to get one, or jimmy up something.
Sorry, just skimmed. I'll be taking mine out later in the week hopefully, if no one gets back to you by then.
Had a look yesterday, it does not connect to the cluster, but to a white connector that comes out from around the coin holder.
As said above. Dimmer regulator connect to junction block near cabin fuses.
