uuhhhh i might get a bit technical here....the reason we change our oil is because motor oil has a "characteristic" called Viscosity, which refers to an oils thickness. As the oil wears over time it loses it's Viscosity (thickness) and becomes thinner, this is why some of us experience tappet/ticking noises when we start our cars up. The thinner the oil gets, the more friction there is on moving components, and whenever you create more friction, you also create more wear, brake pads are a good example as they create friction between the pads and the disk rotor to slow or stop the vehicle, hence why we replace brake pads all the time. So when more friction is created, more wear is also created, which results in major engine damage/wear. 0W50 is a fairly thin oil, and personally i wouldnt put it in my car. Thinner oil like 5W30 is used on brand new cars such as Ford Mondeo's and Ford Focus's, i use 10W30 on my car because it's not too thin and it's not too thick either, i think something like 20W40 would be too thick, you want to give your engine compnents more friction, but i THINK giving it more friction could lead to poor engine performance. This is why i use 10W30, not to thick, not too thin and it's what's recommended in my service guide

0w30 was the only oil that stopped my tappets. And mitsi originally recommended 5w30 and 10w30 in VR-4's, just so you know.

they have this engine oil additive called ML-8 you can use when doing an oil change, that stuff also stops the tappets from ticking

Today we changed the oil in my car from Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5W-40 to Castrol Magnatec Sythetic 5W-30 and the car seems to have gotten a bit worse with the ticking and general lifter noise. I will have to try some Amsoil in her next change for sure. May also try ML-8 or Wynns lifter treatment.

You could get some 0w30 for yourself, drive up to Auckland and back down to Wellington and change it again. That would probably do you quite nicely

The manual says we need 8.9L of ATF. Only about 8L was added to my car and it seems too high on the dipstick, so I may remove some.

it depends how you do the flush really. What you want to do though is start the car, cycle through P R N D, flick it into tip, do first, second, then back to N. Then measure the fluid height. That will probably read quite a bit lower than if you just measure it when the car has been off for a while.

Rosco - I'll talk to them about the ATF, but I suggest you buy 10L

I was going to buy some 0w30 and filters for the ST-R. I went to their website to find it redirecting to a place in Hamilton.

Robotnik has very nicely offered to pick up the oil for us - thanks mate!

So who wants what? I'll give it until next Tuesday to run, and I will enquire with them once Tuesday comes around to find out how much discount we can get.

    Brad - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter

    William - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter

    Candee - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter

    Robotnik - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter

    Richard - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter

Rosco - 5 litres of 0w30 and 1x EAO20 filter and maybe ATF fluid

    Carsten - maybe a filter
Hi everyone - sorry about this but the lady actually told me that they were shutting up shop the last time we had the workshop day (and where I famously wasted all my Amsoil) but she wanted me to keep a lid on it so that they could get rid of all their stock. Apparently their operation has been sold to the folks down in ChCh which will be the main distribution centre for the country.

Do they have a name and more importantly, a web site so we can order stuff. Will they courier ordered product around the country?

Can one of our CHCH members (Goku?) find out for us please............Cheers

Someone on here said they do give CVR4 members a discount which is good though.

They do frieght as he has a regular customer in Whangarei, I think he said that he ships a barrel to.

Ryans link is to the man in chch.

In addition to what's on there, I was just on the phone to him and he's quite happy to ship anywhere($8.50 up to 20kg). A recommended approach would be to have a separate group by with one payment(which will give everyone a 15% discount not just members, as long as it's a member who is paying on behalf of everyone) and have only two delivery points, one Auckland(non-rural for best price) and one in Wellington.

I told him about CVR4's trader accounts so we'll see if he does that or not.

If anyone wants to contact him directly he said he would prefer it on the land line, 6 days a week.

    Any more questions?
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.

well for the purposes of this buy we might as well get it all from Hamilton because Robotnik is coming up. After that we can perhaps do things a bit more in advance.
