WARNING : Trademe Hardpipe intercooler kit

managed to get a hold of the upper section of this kit that joins the 2 turbo's...

here's the auction I bought it thru...

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=152524119

here's where he bought it from...

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=144902786

here's the trader that sells them StreetBtiz...

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Lis...?member=401227

I bought this with the intension of changing its slightly to fit with my 3" pipe work, I thought I would test fit before changing any of it...

    here's what I found...

this fitment is total CRAP! to say the least...

the rear turbo pipe when bolted in place sits hard up against the clutch fluid cup,
and the up against the under side of the factory strut brace,

this is because the flange that bolts to the turbo outlet is not in the right place, its at least 5mm out... cut and re-weld to fix this.

now the found pipe... its even worse, only one bracket fits in place and that's the one on the front rocker cover one.

the turbo outlet pipe does sit down into the turbo outlet nor is it even aligned straight.

the pipe that goes to connect with the rear turbo section is not aligned.
the bracket at that end is also well out no where near bolting up.

the end that heads down to the cooler. is hard up against the power steering fluid cup.

also the bracket that the bolts to the turbo is soft as cheese, and not suitable for the job its ment to do.

also the welds may look ok on the out side, but far from being acceptable on the inside,
they have not been cleanup properly, and there where a few daggy bit which could come loose and go into your motor.

I do not have the rest of the kit to review but if this is anything to go by,
it will be a pile of crap! I would not recommend this to anyone

Is this the one that was being sold for $825? I just ran a search for it and it seems to have been pulled down.
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.

It still looks nice and shiney though. I wonder if they actually have a VR-4 to do test fits on or if they are just basing it off his original design and haven't bothered to re-measure?

i would say they made one sample that fitted,

then the rest were mass produced by slave/child labour who could care less.

It wouldnt be a pre/post facelift thing would it? Plus they probably didnt take any notice of the clutch cylinder if it was auto..

Maybe CVR4 should organise their own piping kits? Iv got my stock pipework sitting in the middle of our shed floor

Maybe in a month or two we could price up something and see if its competitive? Maybe use brads old engine as a base for a Jig, to make sure it would be 100%

Anyway im too tired for scheming at the moment.. hope you get it sorted easily enough.

Ah well, if you decide to move the powersteering thing/overflow let me know. It cost me probably less than $40-50 all up, and clears up some engine bay clutter. Downside is you have to fill your overflow from the hose at the radiator end... and you run the risk of snapping the stupid plasic thing

These kits were based on mine guys all his kits have sold out and hes expecting another shipment in a week or so from his supplier. in saying that, most things of trademe rarely ever fit perfectly, especially things like this.

Carsten, sorry to hear mate but you may have received a faulty one..
My Mate had the exact same kit fitted on his car by Ronnie @ RSL a month or so ago - he had no issues at all with it, fitted perfectly. Ill get pics of it for everyone to see asap.

If need be get intouch with him, im sure hell sort something out for you - hes a good fair guy.
