yeah change the plugs and stan said one of the coils were broken??
as for the noise - hard to say without hearing it
the coil packs are not broken only the old once on the new engine had plastic clips broken off where the connection goes on top, but will definetly get the spark plugs an air throttle cleaner to use. At this stage not sure if will make it on monday or not but will text you Brad
Have purchased new set of spark plugs yesterday and went today to brads to get them fitted to the legnum, when i pulled out all 6 old spark plugs finds out that 2 of them have been touched by piston or as i think because the tip of the spark plug was bent towards the whatever bit it makes spark with. When i have fitted new spark plugs, the noises remained the same sounded like subaru with some minor ticking noises. Because i put the manifold back on i was only able to access one of the front spark plugs that was bent previously just to check whats up with it and finds out its not bent this time however looks clean compering to other spark plugs that have allready turned blackish due to cumbostion. What do i check from here andy ideas on what causes the unhealthy engine noise?? Engine as well idles and just drops to nil and dies after short period of time, but still remains to sound like subaru and someime pops from exhaust.

It could be an air leak? Maybe a hose got left off, or put on the wrong place. Try matching it up to this diagram.Originally Posted by 1hotvr4

It sounds like something screwy is up with the timing / spark. Have you tried the other set of leads, and made sure they are fitting correctly and in the right order? The spares might have gotten wet.
Do a search for DIY diagnostic test, and see what fault codes you can get out of it, that might give someone a better idea?

if the piston had hit the plug the end of the plug would be smashed.
Carsten did regap them so that could be why they look closer?
as mike says, check electrical plugs and hoses etc
I still think it might be one of the coils that is broken causing a misfire on 2 cylinders due to the wasted spark setup on VR-4's
yes you could be right...tho i dont want to diagnose something from the other end of a computer. could try swapping the coils

Possibly, i'll have to let you know though, i need to change my gearbox oil to the right spec, so i can get it into gear in the mornings and i have developed some sort of engine problem / backfiring issue myself
I should hopefully be able to come out sunday afternoon though.
Most of CVR4 NZ Auckland crew will be there on the Saturday night for the party, maybe a few will come early during daylight hours to look at the car?

hey mike do you have a diagram of the way that spark plug leads are pluged in coz i have a feeling that i have plugged them in not properly
Looking at the engine from the front of the car, (dont know if that is the 'correct' cylinder numbering, but for arguments sake..)
1 - 3 - 5
2 - 4 - 6
The leads go from 2-5, 4-1, 6-3
LoL, I'm pretty sure they'll be there... a little worse for wear perhaps
Just wanna finish off the car Asap taking out Brads space for longer then expected and bothering him with my visits all the time. Feel gutted now lol
