don't get me wrong it is a nice idea and i am sure anyone that wins the monthly draw will be very happy. but we have a monthly draw at work for our sports and social club. and i have always said to them that rather complaining that they don't get enough funding from the company, get rid of the monthly draw to recoupe some money. there are enough events to spend the money on with respects subsidizing them and the like.

    Just my 2p worth.

even if the money is just kept for a rain day when things go wrong big style, because they will at some point. It always does.

another thought would be how about manual buying that could be rented out at a nominal fee to cover postage, or some banker parts that can be loaned out for diagnostic purposes, coil packs, idle control motors, multi temp sonsors/thermocouple, endoscope (for viewing cylinders/valves internals without having to do a complete stip down). something like that, something big that any normal person couldn't afford.

or just to get a spell checker on the site so people like me don't write more rubbish than intended.
i agree with this man to a degree. i would rather you save the money for a rainy, the jesture is good but survival is better.I know i'm not in a position to understand the financial side of running this site, but i have seen sgood sites in the past go under. I used to be a member of e36coupe.com and they got too big and couldn't fund the payments and ended up merging with another forum. Its up to you guys but thats mp 2p

Your point is absolutely correct and well received ....... Members worldwide will be included in the Prize Draw (with the exception of New Zealand & Australia as those countries are self financing).

Thanks for pointing that out Roberto

Well i think this could be a good idea. When we had the pool competition a couple of years ago it really got the club buzzing, as I believe this will.

As long as it in no way impacts on the clubs finances in general then I think a bit of healthy competition spirit may be just the think to breath some fresh life back into the club. It will also encourage more registered users to sign up as full members, thus bringing more money into the club from membership fees.

    Good on ya lads...

    Just my 2ps worth.

i think the first or next prize should be a new set of turbos (TD03`s) with an EBC a set of new discs and pads(uprated) and a full service, oh and of course i should win this, bribes considered

    My 2p:

I think it's a good idea but I've got slightly different idea:
Instead of monthly prize, why not doing one every 6 / 12 months and make it really big like set of brake discs/pads or Ferrari experience (too big?) and the draw would be only for the members that has renewed their memberships which effectively means the members that's been in the club for more than 1 year.

I know this is a bit off topic but does the club have a tool share scheme.

Bsically post up any tools you are willing to share, the club forms a list of these and any fully paid up members can request a tool at cost of postage or drop off at the borrower expense.

not sure if it will work. i was thinking of stuff like mig welders, scopes, engine hoists, engine supports, timing guns, exhaust analisers, air tools, compressor spay guns, plus all the little stuff which is a bit spicialised, and had to come by.

Now i really think about is the postal cost would probably be too high, and there is always the risk of rouge members looking to join the club just to rip some off. Maybe it just better to help thy neighbourgh.

it just the good rature side of busting out only to be quashed by the reallity of life that not everybody is as nice as you would like them to be.

    Bye for Now!

Actually, I think that all remaining money could do something good for some charity.
Let's make the club a sort of patron to some charity.

I'll chuck my hat in from the deep dark southern hemisphere

Shouldnt any spare funds be used to encourage the club to grow? the prize thing is a good idea, but i think it would be even better to put the $$ or pounds or whatever it is you use into subsidising events that get people off the computer and meeting in real life?

If it was me, id be inclined to subsidise events like entry into shows, dyno days, track days or whatnot, things that get the CVR4 name out there, and building the friendships that make lasting members. It could even be something like a commemorative thing for the big events you guys seem to do, like a CVR4 nurburg sticker that gets given to those who attend or something similar.

Giving back to members is all good, but i prefer the indirect option..

Jeez i dont know, hire a plane and write CVR4 over london or something

Some interesting ideas from you guys n' gals. Now you possibly understand the dilemma that the Committee had in deciding what to do to add a little more interest to Club activities online. Any of your suggestions could possibly have been used but as one of you suggests - there can be problems with implementation. And, of course, whereas you and I may think your idea is a good one, many won't! We discussed many different ideas, some of which you are now promoting.

Keep the ideas coming as we may be able to use them alongside existing activities.

I'm with mpau009. I think any spare club funds should be used to promote the club at events - much better return than giving it back to club members.

You might even need a lottery licence to do what has been proposed.

Would that be the case even though people arn't paying into a fund directly for a prize draw, they are actually paying for membership ?

The charity idea would raise a whole other host of issues like which charity etc, but in principle I like this idea.

The tool sharing idea I think would have to be outside of the club's responsibility, so maybe post up a thread to solicit other members thoughts on the subject ?

I don't really like the idea of a 6/12 month draw with a bigger prize as this simply limits the number of winners and dilutes the enthusiasm. We may have some "specials" from time to time in the year. Also, restricting it to only members who have renewed is unfair in my mind.....I guess I am thinking of an example of someone winning who joined 11 months ago and had every intention of renewing the following month but misses out, if you catch my drift.

I know what you mean Spirit and agree, it's not that easy and may be seen as unfair.
I've mentioned that as a answer to other post saying that a newbie winner would not be fair for people with longer memberships. That was just loose idea anyway.

How about running lottery as a Club and finance it from spare money. I.e. 5-10 lines a week. Actually it may be too many people to share if we win but small wins may go to the pot to finance food and drinks on Club events.

I hope you're not talking about the UK National Lottery - that's just a tax on the stupid and one of the fastest ways I know to lose all money invested (betting on horses comes a close second, but at least the odds are better )
