    I think you're probably OK ...

    Lotteries
You don’t need a operating licence if:

You are only running an “Exempt Lottery” i.e. A lottery that is incidental to a non-commercial event where:

No proceeds from the event are used for the purposes of private gain.
The lottery is promoted wholly for a purpose other than that of private gain (i.e. for a charitable purpose/ good cause).
No more than the amounts to be prescribed in regulations are deducted from the proceeds to cover costs. (The draft lotteries regulations are due to be with the Commission in January 2007 for consultation and will be in place by April 2007).
    There is no roll over.
No ticket is sold otherwise than during the event and on the premises where the event is being held.
The results are made public while the event is taking place.

    Schedule 11 Part 1(1)-(8).
    A private society lottery where:

The lottery is promoted only by authorised members of a society.
Tickets are sold to either society members or on the society premises.
The group or society is established and conducted for purposes other than gambling.
The lottery is promoted for the purposes for which the society is conducted.
The lottery is advertised only on the society’s premises.
Tickets comply with certain provisions common also to work and resident’s lotteries including that they are each of the same price and are non-transferable.
    There is no rollover.

Sadly I've let my membership lapse (no job since end of November) - However, as I fancy another VR4 (timescale toward the end of the Summer), I may have to join again (Yes, have a new contract now - phew!!)

Hey!! Thanks all you guys - 6 months not working does take its toll - The additional pressure of my 14 year-old daughter now living with me has somewhat changed my lifestyle!!

'twas a good time to get a job as the savings were almost spent - Now working at VW/Audi in Milton Keynes (you really should see all the R8s in the car park!!!!).

OK, Firstly congrats to the winners.

But....the first round has proven my earlier comments....First prize went to a member who has been here for 3 years with only 5 posts and who hasn't been online since November. Second prize (A year's membership) went to a member who's membership was renewed only a month ago....does he get a refund of his £20 or is he only a winner if he want's to stay on after another 11 months? In this day with rising fuel costs I'm not sure how many VR4s will still be in use..

Sorry to drone on but this just seems ridiculous.

Couldn't the prizes be varied? Like some free club merchandise, free tickets to an event of your choice, a voucher for Halfords/Amsoil or other useful tpoical product?

As we haven't renewed our membership, I wasn't going to post on this thread, but as I can see it, I guess that means I can

Part of the reason we haven't renewed is the way that membership is spent and Nick's recent events posts highlight it very well.

Attendees at JAE (and this happens at most events) are being asked to pay more than the advertised price to attend with the club to cover 'paypal fees and postage' and yet you are going to hand back £30 cash to a non active member - that seems crazy to me?

This is the only fee paying club that I go on regularly that asks members to pay more than the face value of event tickets - surely these are exactly the kind of things that should be covered by the membership fees?

    Just my thoughts

    J

I think only members with over 7760 posts should be entered into the prize draw

As far as i can see its about CVR4 giving back to its paid up members. Maybe giving funds back would be better appropriated into the main CVR4 meets/events. Maybe a catered B-B-Q for the main events and subsidised food/drink for the lesser events.

Then again maybe its worth investing in storage and or trailer for the growing clubs items such as gazebos/ bbq / flags / banners etc

Maybe it will get more peeps to events?

    Just my tuppence
